(with apologies to Elton John!)
Today we are discovering the deepest darkets heart of Africa - and it is located in Pat's laundry room at the back of the house. We have brought out and sorted all the clothes and put them into labelled bin bags. When Pat returns from her meetings we will be beseeching her to drive to the plastics shop (one of several in a dusty run down area where they seem to sell nothing but plastic!) and we will buy storage boxes and bins to put the clothing in - the clothing is sold to raise money for Angels.
Where do the donations come from? That brings me to the Sustainable Living Expo! At the entrance to the Expo were several large bins for donations of used clothing, shoes, toys and books. Three charities were chosen to receive the donations and Angels had the donations from the Sunday - the busiest day.
Terry had to come with her truck to bring them home. The truck was so full she could not see out the back. We were lucky not to lose any bags on the way home!
At the end of the exhibition we took down the display and stopped to pick up a KFC for supper. After tea we all went outside and started to go through the donations and put them in the laundry room. However bin bags are not the best thing for tidying. They slip and slide and have a life of their own so we want to buy the boxes.
The Expo was good fun. We made lots of contacts, lots of people who were glad to know there was somewhere that would appreciate their old baby clothes and blankets and lots of interest in the education programmes as well.
Yesterday morning was spent at the hospital - lots of children on the ward. We gave them little light up jumping creatures and caused chaos. One little boy was still there from last week clutching the truck we gave him then. Otherwise there are no toys or entertainments for them at all. A lot of the patients come in with gastric upsets so they don't want them to share toys. So we take things in that they can take home with them when they leave.
We also went to school yesterday afternoon for the Titus/Proverbs programme. The kids are taught so well and are all so polite and respectful.
Can't believe that this time next week we will be home to the cold and wet. I have never felt so conflicted - I miss everyone at home but will miss Africa so much.

Barbara Scutt I'm sure there'll be more Africa visits for you !!!
Ann Price Maybe you could set up a donation type account for your Angels Fiona, with people commiting to a regular monthly amount,.say £3 or £5 to be paid direct to the Angels acvount by direct debit....or something similar. It may not add to much amongst those of your friends wishing to contribute...but every little helps!! Axx
Muriel Wild It has been cold and wet here the last two days! You seem to have had the most exciting and rewarding time but I guess the family will be glad to have you back.
