Arrived in Kuala Lumpur Thursday morning as with India I have no fixed itinerary here in Malaysia but there are a few places I would like to see. KL is not what I expected, huge high rise buildings with all the big banks represented and there are an incredible amount of shopping malls, 66 in total apparently! One of which consists of 5 floors that contains just mobile phones, laptops cameras etc. I thought the UK was obsessed with the latest gadgets but these guys take it another level along with the worlds now insatiable appetite for consumerism, from high end designer shops to the tat and fake goods that is evident everywhere in the world.
As I was here I thought it rude not to go to the top of KL tower 250 metres in the air and was the tallest in the world when it was built now 4th tallest, got a tip from a local there is a rain forest in the middle of the city which is not often visited as it's secluded. How bizzare!
As with India there is evidence of a harmonious secular society with places of worship from all denominations.
Oh yeah it's baking hot too, mid 30's which is more oppressive due to the high buildings.
The Central Park and lakes are impressive areas to visit, and gives you a break from the city.
I was determined to go on a mission to find a sunday roast as I hadn't had one for 6 weeks! Found one with Roast beef all the trimmings and it was fab, including the finest Yorkshire puds I ever did taste, the spuds were nice but not as nice as Della's. Still to find bacon and cabbage though! Spoke to all the family the weekend too which always gives me a boost, along with everybody's kind messages.
I have always been a supporter of the underdog since I was a child and used to get upset and frustrated by bullies whether they be a politician or in a workplace or wherever, then one day my brother my best mate said to me the most profound words I ever heard "what gives me solace is there will always be a bigger bully". Those words are such comfort to me so on his 5th anniversary I just wanted to share it. Miss you so much Matty and I know you and others are watching over me.
