Arrived on the tiny tropical island of Pangkor population 25,000 off the west coast of Malaysia. It's very quiet, has a beautiful beach and unlike the other islands of Malaysia it is not overrun with tourists.
I achieved something that I hadn't done in 25 years yesterday, I rode a bicycle! It was a very liberating experience and not too difficult as the roads are very quiet and before anybody asks yes my feet did reach the pedals.
The added bonus of this lovely island is the beach which has a Chinese temple secluded away at one end, temperatures are mid 30s but with heavy monsoons at night although that is quite refreshing.
The nature trails are wonderful with so much greenery, plenty on monkeys and some Toucans but annoying leeches also. It again reminds me so much of Cavetown holidays as a child with that freedom to wander aimlessly and just marvel at the wonders of nature.
I am staying in a great guesthouse run by the most friendly Malaysian couple. You are not going to believe this but on the day I arrived they had cooked Corn Beef Hash! Its their favourite meal, how mad is that.
Good mix of people French,Dutch, Finns and the great thing is they all speak English, I knew those French lessons at school would be a waste of time and so glad I never turned up for them now.
Going on a fishing trip tomorrow and whatever we catch were gonna have a barbie on the night.
Flying to Borneo on Monday for my next leg.
