The adventures of Feather
Having returned from a week island hopping in glorious Fiji the tan has returned. I have stopped shivering and my bones have been truly warmed by the baking Fijian sunshine, the crystal blue waters and the incredible hospitality. Initially arriving here in cloud and haze i spent the first day on South Sea Island, about 200 metres in diameter just dropped in the middle of the ocean, shivering under my sarong and glaring at the sky- this was not Fiji! However it cleared up and then you understand the meaning of paradise! Over the last 6 days I have mostly been lying on the beaches and baking, swimming in the sea- water so clear you can see straight to the bottom, and snorkelling, admiring the incredible multi coloured fish that come right up to you and nibble your toes! Also I was lucky enough to go snorkelling with manta rays- huge things the size of dustbin lids flying toward you with their mouths open gathering plankton on their way, it was so amazing to just swim along side them. So many books have been read, friends made and tans compared. I have been to traditional cava ceremonies- a drink the locals make from tree roots which has special soporofic and mood enhancing properties- it tastes like you are sucking on a tree and is the colour of dish water but so as not to be rude you have to drink lots! When my hearing started to go funny and i was slipping into a giggling coma i felt it appropriate to go back to my hut and pass out! Before the cava takes hold Fijians love to sing and it is truly amazing to hear, they also like to drag visitors up to dance -so many a hokey cokey style evening has been enjoyed. All very bizarre.. on an island in the middle of nowhere dancing round like fools and drinking brown dish water out of wooden bowls!! Have also swum in underwater caves, pitch black and very scary, I was enjoying the thrill until someone mentioned there were sea lice in the water and then it all went a bit pear shaped and suddenly swimming in the dark surrounded by creepy crawlies wasnt so much fun! Anyway I am now back on the mainland and biding my time with a few Fiji Gold beers and my book until I fly to LA this evening. Looking forward to it and will of course probably find fame and fortune so nex time you see me I will be in Heat magazine browsing for diamonds on Rodeo Drive. Hope all is well and see you soon!!
