So its about time I updated this bad boy again. Right now im about a 1/4 of the way into a epic 24hour journey from Phuket to Chaing Mai so Ive got some time to kill before our night train tonight.
Ill try to start where I left off
Jan 10th
So we spent most of this day nurseing terrible hangovers (clara especially) from the Ladyboy Caberet the night before. We had time to kill before our trip to Krabi on the night boat to we decided to relex on the beach and check out the town. And its a good job we did get some rest because we certainly didnt on the night boat (except Amy who seems to be able to sleep anywhere). The night boat was an interesting experience to say the least. Imagine a giant, extremely thin, mattress spread out on the floor of the boat with a few sand bag like pillows and you get an idea. Now imagine this shared by 70people, so tightly packed together that you cant move without rolling on to somebody and you have a Thai night boat! I think I managed to sleep for about a 1/2hour before I was woke up by the massive German guy next to me rolling on top of me. I didnt sleep after that....

Today we decided to explore Krabi before heading onto Koh Phi Phi which proved almost impossible. The place obviously doesnt see to many tourists because it seemed that we couldnt go anywhere without some bloke trying to sell us a boat trip to some island. We started off trying to politely say no, but they didnt seem to understand that "I'll come back tomorrow" actually meant "NO! I dont want to go on your bloody boat trip. Ive just spent a hole night sleeping with one eye open making sure someboday doesnt roll on me!" Needless to say it got annoying.

We decided to escape Krabi on the earliest boat possible and head to Koh Phi Phi. So we got the 10am boat out of there. Koh Phi Phi is a pretty amazing place. Its more touriesty than Koh Phangan and Koh Tao but it manages to feel alot more relaxed, mainly because there is no motorised traffic on the island which you have to dodge....instead theyre replaced by blokes with massive hand karts WHO STOP FOR NOONE! They just run at you shouting BEEP BEEP and hope you move. I actually saw one plow into a push bike. We spent most of this day on the beach or snorkelling because it was pretty much too hot to do anything else. This resulted in me getting burnt. Yipee. That evening we explored the town and ended up having our feet cleaned in a fish spa. One of the strangest experiences of my life; it felt like 100s of little electric shocks. I think I had especially tastey feet because they loved me.

This day we ended up taking a boat trip around Koh Phi Phi so we could see the most things as possible in one day. Thailand is so dirt cheap that a 9hour boat trip, which included snorkelling, food and drink, only cost 500B which is like a tenner. AMAZING. We started off the day snorkelling at Bamboo and Mosquito Island which had loads of fish and eels and sea stars, the water is so clear here you can see for ages. Then we carried on around the island looking at some interesting stuff like a sea blow hole and a rock shaped like a camel. Of course a little more of the Thai bulls*** came into play when we got to Viking cave; a place where apparently the vikings have came all the way from Norway just to paint some pictures on the wall, which they couldnt even show us because it was the wrong time of year..... Anyway after that we headed on to Maya Bay, which is the place where the film The Beach was filmed. But to get there we had to climb the most dangerous staircase EVER! Basically we had to climb the steps from the sea, whilst being bashed into the rocks by the waves. Not the best experience ive ever had. But i though to myself if this is what you have to go to to get to The Beach it must be amazing there.....and it would have been if it wasnt for the thousands of other people who had come by speed boat from the other side of the island where you could land straight onto the beach. Great. After negotiating the rocks again to get back onto the boat we went to Monkey beach, which had a grand total of 1 monkey which was high in a tree about 100meters away. Despite this it was a pretty amazing day, and one i wont forget for a while thanks to the nice bruise on my foot from the rocks.lol

So on the road again. We got the "9am" boat to Phuket City. I say "9am" because as we now know that Thai travel is ALWAYS late. We didnt end up leaving the dock until about 10.15 and it was HOT in the boat. For a while now we havent booked anywhere to stay so when we arrived we asked the taxi driver to take us somewhere cheap. And we ended up in the nicest place we stayed in so far which had HOT SHOWERS. It was expensicve by Thai standards at 300B each a night, but as that worked out to about 7quid it was pretty amazing. After a nice hot shower we decided to take a Tuk Tuk to Phuket aquarium, which apart from eing a bit short was pretty cool. After a bit of eduation we decied to have a bit of fun so we went to shoot some guns! Thai health and safety was up to par again as all they asked us for was our names and money, told us not to point the guns at our face and we were off. Naturally thanks to Call of Duty I was amazing, thrashing the girls (as it should be). After that excitement we wanted to go back to our hotel but Jimmy, our tuk tuk driver, had other ideas. He ramdomlly took us to a place that sold expensive jewellrey. Clara got on his case though and made him take us back. Later we found out that they get stamps in a book for free petrol for taking us to those places. The cheek of it.

From Phuket City we decided to go to Kata beach. This is when we met "Tony". He was our taxi driver come tour guide come comedian. Apparently hes best buds with Presient Obama and when were in the US that we should go visit and say Tony says hi. We were going to head to a place called Bang Tao but Tony said that when the 2004 sunami hit it wiped out all the local accomidiation there and it had all been replaced by mega hotels which were a rip off; so we went to Kata which turned out to be a good move. We spent the day on the beach and snorkelling again, which was strange as we appeared to be the only people there who werent retired. I dont understand why fat, old men decide it is acceptiable to walk up and down the beach in tiny speedos, and why it is never attractive women who like to go topless.... In the evening we explored the town, where we walked past an interesting stall which sold personal protection equipment, like tazers, throwing stars, lock knives and knuckle dusters. You know everything you might need to protect yourself. I was playing around with this tazer, pretending to zap Rosie with it then the store woman started laughing her head off. She came on over pressed a button on the side and it turned out the thing was REAL and WORKING! Thailand doesnt care much for health and safety thats for sure.
