Its been a pretty eventful week so far and alot of fun (mostly). We spent pretty much the first 2 days traveling! First by a horribly long plane journey (although not as long as to Aus thank god), then we got a taxi from the airport straight to the train station which was an experience in its self. Thai drivers are NUTTERS! Im not sure if there are any traffic laws over here but if there is they don't obey them. The overnight train from Bangkok to Suratthani was probably the best train I've ever been on (except for the cockroaches). It was 12hours long but the had beds on board which folded out which were pretty comfortable. From Suratthani we got the ferry out to Koh Phangnan which is where we are now. We got a "taxi" from the dock to our hotel, although a pickup truck with a couple of seats welded to the pack is classed as a taxi here, and that combined with their interesting driving style makes for a pretty nail biting ride!
And then the "incident" happened.
We had literally just got back to our hotel (which is pretty much on the the beach), put down our stuff and ran into the sea. And then Amy (who im traveling with) stood on a rock and gashed the bottom of her foot. So after no even being there for 5 minutes we were back in the back of a pickup truck rushing to hospital. Shes had to go to the main island, Koh Samui, where she had stitches in her foot and spend 4 days in hospital for a course of antibiotics. Not a good start for her buts shes OK now and were going to meet her down at the docks in a couple of hours.
So after that excitement we went into the main town and went to the food market WHICH WAS AMAZING! The was so much food there you didnt know where to start. And I can guarantee that granny would like none of it! On the second day we had the best idea we'd ever had. We hired some scooters! For 200B a day (about 5 quid) you can hire mopeds which is the only way to travel around here. Petrol is stupidly cheap as well: we filled the tank for 3.50! Other than the "taixs" everybody rides a bike here, even some of the taxis are bikes! Me, Clara and Rosie spent the day driving round the island checking out all the amazing beaches. Yesterday (NYE) we decided to go out sea fishing. The guy who took us out couldn't speak any English but it was amazingly fun. The boat barely looked like it could float but it did the job. There were no rods, only line and hooks but we were pretty successful......well the others were. I only caught 4 and ur guide caught a massive one! But we got as good enough haul so that we could have them on the BBQ tonight. After that we went to the Full Moon Party ready to count down the new year. It was a MASSIVE beach party. Apparently there was 30,000 people there the year before and thats where we saw in the new year...i think.
