Friday's fun-filled frolics!!
It's my last day in Vietnam, and the second to last day of my entire trip! Tomorrow I fly to Hong Kong for the briefest of visits before making my way home to Angleterre.
Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam was our first stop. This bustling city is motorbike central! Apparently there are like 7 million of those things zooming around the city's streets and accidents are unsurprisingly common. No one wears a helmet here either. Tut tut. Only one night here, which was spent visiting the night market and chatting to a couple of South African football players whose dream was to play for an English team.
As we hadn't seen a beach for a while we decided to journey north to an extremely quiet coastal town called Muine, where local kids gave us a lesson in sandboarding. This was really good fun, and the kids were lovely. A bit of time was spent lazing on the beach outside our guesthouse, visiting a nearby fishing village by motorbike and sampling the local seafood.
From Muine to a much livelier city on the coast - Nha Trang. We booked ourselves onto a boat tour that took us around the neighbouring islands to snorkel, sunbathe and drink from the floating bar! What more could you want?! Jo and I also treated ourselves to a day at a mineral mud spa as well as a massage for the princely sum of about 3 pounds! Bargain.
Next stop: Hoi An. This town is THE place in Asia to get the cheapest tailor made clothing. I'm going have to have to chuck some stuff out of my backpack to make room for my new tailor made stuff! Yeah, we went a bit crazy with the shopping, but it's unbelievably cheap so we've forgiven ourselves.
So our trip up the Vietnamese coast has finished in the country's capital, Hanoi, where we've been for a day or two now. Yesterday I visited a huge indoor market, the Women's museum and in the evening I went to watch a water puppet show at the theatre. This is an art that dates back to the 11th century and was started by farmers in the rice fields. Pretty cool. All in Vietnamese though so I didn't have a clue what the play was about!
Today will be spent doing some last minute shopping I think. Maybe I'll get another massage too :-)
Ciao for now xxx
