Friday's fun-filled frolics!!
Um...I may be a little behind on the updates so I'll make them brief!
Thailand was awesome fun - a mix of towns and beach life made up our travels from south to north of the country; a perfect balance. Travelled up from Malaysia with Jez, leaving the Davide and the Han (that's Gehan by the way) to chill some more in the Perhentians.
First stop: a very crazy Ko Samui where we partied all night long with the lady boys and rented a motorcycle to see the rest of the island in the day. A mix of beautiful beaches and crazy nightlife - we were also introduced to the notorious 'buckets' which are all over Thailand. A bucket (literally) of some dodgy Thai spirit, red bull and coke. Too many of those and it's always an interesting
night!
From there we rejoined Dave and Gehan for a Full Moon party in Ko Phangan. I don't know how to quite describe a full moon party apart from that it is CRAZY fun! A good few buckets were had on the beaches of Haad Rin. We were also joined from England by Tim and Graham - some uni mates. Tim flew out as a surprise, I found him jumping through a ring of fire on the beach (needless to say he hadn't wasted any time getting acquainted with the buckets)! Lots of fun was had by all, a few funny stories came out of full moon and before we knew it the whole group of us was heading for Ko Tao for some diving and much needed detox.
Ko Tao was nice and chilled for the most part. Got my deep diving certificate which was cool but also got a nasty ear infection which wasn't so cool.
While us proper travellers roughed it on the bus for 10 hours to Bangkok, Tim and Graham decided that they'd travel in style and flew instead. We met them at their crazily posh hotel - the Shangri-La if anyone knows it. Electric curtains and everything! Bangkok was great fun - saw some Wats (temples), went to night markets and chilled on the famous backpacker street: Ko San road. Unfortunately Dave got his bag nicked complete with camera and wallet etc.
From Bangkok to Chiang Mai for some trekking in the Pai region. Went on an elephant and slept in a jungle village where the locals offered us some 'Dr O' (read:opium). They do it all the time even though I'm sure it's illegal. I declined to have any but those who did had some pretty weird dreams I'm told.
Dave, Jez and I hung out for an evening or two in Chiang Mai before J and I made our way to Laos where I became very ill......but I'll tell you about that in the Laos update...coming soon!
Wow, that turned out to be not so brief an update! Soz!
Hope you are all well
