Friday's fun-filled frolics!!
Unfortunately alot of my time in Laos was spent looking at the four walls of my hostel room while I recovered from Dengue fever. For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's passed on by pesky mosquitos and leaves your skin, bones and eyeballs hurting for about a week and a half to two weeks. Add on top of that constant throwing up and you're left with not much energy left to get out of bed! Lucky me!
Fortunately I wasn't alone, Jez did a good job of looking after me.
Our first stop in Laos was Luang Prabang where I managed to make it out of bed briefly for the night market. From what I saw, it's a pretty town by the Mekong with various temples dotted about. From here to Vang Vieng which is set amongst beautiful limestone hills that seem to jutt out of nowhere. Most tourists who visit Vang Vieng are there for 'tubing'. This is where you float down a river in a large rubber tube, stopping off at bamboo crafted bars along the way, which are good fun.
Jeremy and I went our separate ways after Vang Vieng; he returned to Thailand whereas I travelled solo to some islands in the Mekong River called Si Phan Don ('4000 Islands'). Some quiet days were spent on Don Dett and Don Khon with two English girls and 1 Korean guy I met there. We hired bicycles to see the islands and visited the waterfalls. Very chilled.
And that was it for Laos! It is a beautiful country, I'll have to go back one day to experience it minus the dengue fever!
