quiggsy on tour
From Foz we headed to the coast of Brazil where we had chosen to miss a day (regretting that decision now!). We stayed in a town called Parati which was lovely. The coast line is just beautiful - exactly how I imagined Brazil to be - forested mountains next to clear blue water and amazing beaches.
From Parati we took a boat tour around some of the nearby islands. We stopped at a few of the beaches where we could jump off and swim and snorkel and generally just laze around feeling smug to be there! To top off the day we popped open a few bottles of champers and toasted Italy winning the world cup (courtesy of Alex who won the sweepstake). Perfect day.
In the evening we went out for dinner which was a nice change even though we have had some awesome dinners cooked by ourselves! Had thai food which was really nice if a bit pricey (i.e. as much as you would pay in UK). There was some sort of fiesta going on in Parati so we had a singalong to a local band (think spice girls with guitars) who played a random eclectic mix of music (The Final Countdown, followed by Beatles, followed by Nirvana....!), although we seemed to be the only ones who knew any of it.
Spent the next day mooching around on the beach and then had a big barbque followed by a random session of group massage (sounds dodgy but is actually just standing in a line massaging each others backs. very relaxing). And Reiko and I managed to polish off a bottle of cinnamon flavoured Cachaça which sounds rank but is surprisingly drinkable. I was paying the price this morning when we had to get up at 8am (only 4 hours after going to bed....) to go to Rio.
So, we are now in Rio and it looks like this is where I will be staying for the next few weeks as internal flights are very expensive at the moment (was planning a rainforest trip but doesnt seem likely now). To be fair I can think of worse places to spend a few weeks.......!
Its quite sad though because it is the end of our trip here so most people are leaving in the next few days. It's been emotional.....
Rio news soon!
Much love f
