quiggsy on tour
So I am kind of backtracking here as I have only just found about this nifty little site from my tent-mate.
Summary of my travels so far:
Arrived in Quito, the capital of Ecuador on Friday.
Had a look around on Saturday. It is a massive city.
Met the rest of the group I will be travelling with, there's 24 of us in total which is quite cool because there's always someone doing something.
Met our 'truck'on Sunday and set off for Otavalo, a market town north of Quito. We stayed in a really cool little hostel which had hammocks and stuff in a little courtyard, all very quaint and it would have been lovely if the sun ever decided to appear....
Went horseriding around the area which was really fun, the guy had us cantering along at every opportunity, particularly when we were going along metre wide paths through overhanging trees etc... I am now paying the price as my inner thighs are still (3 days later) in pain.
Monday travelled cross country (think dirt tracks up mountains, just wide enough for a large truck to fit along) to a cloud forest. Saw a big hairy spider (photo to come hopefully!) when taking tents down!
Tuesday we had a long drive down to Baños which is where i am now. It is a spa town near the Amazon so we are going to try to find the thermal baths this afternoon to have a soak and then tomorrow we are going into the jungle for 2 days. It sounds ominously wet as our driver, Geoff, asked us all for our shoe size so they can get us wellies.........! Updates on the jungle will follow, if i get out alive.
Anyway enough for now, hope you are all keeping well in sunny old england....
