Hi All!We left Auckland on Wednesday after not doing very much as it was freezing and I was still ill. To be honest there doesn't seem to be very much to do anyhow. Also our hostel is right next door to a brothel which is really great lol! We had to go and buy me a jumper as it is baltic here, like really cold. We knew it wouldn't be hot but its like a February day at home! We also went and booked some skiing as well for when we get to Queenstown and a camper to get us back up from Christchurch as its way cheaper than hostels and paying for transport. it's a bit more expensive than the guide books suggest here so in order to do the activities you just kind of have to do nothing for a few days and then you can afford the activities. There is so much to do here, there are things you couldnt even imagine or have never even heard of! New Zealand is really pretty as well, very similar to Scotland, it kind of looks like driving to my Grandad's, the scenery is meant to get even better the further south you go. We got on our Magic Bus which we have a pass for on Wednesday and its even better than we thought. We thought it just takes you to the places and that's it but it stops at all the places to interest along the way and the driver books all your accommodation for you at the destination and books your place to the next bus, it works out really well so you don't have to do much organising yourself. Our driver for our first couple of days was Dusty and he was hilarious, he swore all the time. Phrases like "Put your hand up if your not back on the bus, well f*** 'em, we might see them running along by the side of the bus in a bit" and jokes such as "A naked man runs past three old woman, two have a stroke, the other one cant reach" lol! He also says "Sweet As" at the end of each line lol, he is so funny. He says NZ starts outside Auckland and I think he is right! On Wednesday we went to Mount Eden to have a look at the views over Auckland which was nice, and then off to a place where they shear rabbits of all things as they would die if they didnt as they cant clean themselves and they sell their fur, it was such a shame they were all stretched out to be sheared awww. Then we drove to Waitomo Caves so that some people cold go and do the black water rafting in the caves, we just had lunch in the café as it was quite expensive and we decided there was stuff we would rather do! Then we drove to a The Swing Bridge over a hydroelectric power station dam which was well scary and really swingy. New Zealand is really up on saving the environment, they have 6 hydroelectric power stations along the main river as there is so much water, Dusty likes to slag the aussie girls on the bus about this as they have none lol. We arrived in Rotarua at teatime for our first overnight stop. Rotarua is the geothermal centre of NZ and so there is loads of sulphur in the air so the whole place smells like rotten eggs which is minging lol! We just went and bought some winter clothes and had some dinner and went to bed. Our hostel had a puppy staffy which was so cute and jumped up and licked your hands awww! We had the same bus the next day and went along to the boiling mud pools and seen the Lady Knox geyser erupt, they erupt it everyday so that people can watch as they don't know when in a 48 hour period it will happen. It was freezing and raining so nobody did the walk around then we headed to Rock n Ropes where there is a giant swing you go on in a harness, its was rainy s we didn't bother but Jodie from our bus went on, it looked quite cool. Next we went down to Huka Falls which generate more power for NZ and has so much water travelling do fast that it culd fill an Olympic size swimming pool every 1.3 seconds! It was really nice and pretty too. Next we got to Taupo and had a look at the bungy and some of the others did it. It didn't look so bad but I have never fancied one but I kind of wanted to be persuaded but Craig was having none of it as he hates heights so we all got on the bus to go to our hostels but I was well regretting it so I got back off the bus and ……….I DID A BUNGY!!!!! It was 157ft over a river and it was so scary. I just went and did it before I could wimp out. It was pertifying, I thought I was going to be sick. I was standing on the edge and she was like 3 2 1 bungy and I was still standing there I had to ask her to push me, so I jst lose my eyes and fell all the way down, it was really cool, my top went flying up though and I flashed my bra to anyone watching lol. I couldn't stop laughing, it was such an adrenalin rush, I really didnt think I could do one, im so proud!! In he afternoon Craig and I went and topped up our shopping at Pak n Save and then got ready to have drinks in the Irish pub down the road with our bus load, met a few nice people. It was a good laugh and we bumped into Any and Jane that we met on the Wanna Taki boat in Fiji!! Small world! It was good and we got pretty drunk and went to a club. Today we are pretty rough and have a private room seeing as we are here for 4 nights and it has a TV so we are just lounging about. We switched on and Jeremy Kyle was on, it was awesome, some british TV!!! We even have some good food now, lucozade, appletise and brown sauce and HP no less. Life really doesn't get much better!!Hope everyone is well at home.Lots of Love Eva and Craig xxx
