Hi Peeps, We got to Garden City in Kansas the next morning a few hours late due to fallen trees on the track from the storm and made our way to the hotel. The first thing we noticed about here was that the place literally stinks, we don't know what off but it was like manure or something. We just watched films in our room as we were tired from the trip and then at night we went to go out for some food and the heavens opened and we were drenched within seconds and had to go back. Also the place where we stayed was like 5 miles from Hoakim where the murders happened that are featured in the film Capote. Also in the morning on the way back to the train station we had the same taxi driver as there is only one lol and he was telling us that he has never seen the sea, oh my god!!Next day we took the train to Trinidad in Colorado which was a lovely western town, I fell asleep on the train and it was all flat prairie land when I went to sleep and desert when I woke up an hour later! When we got there the train station was a portakabin and there was no phone and no taxis about so we walked to a restaurant and had something to eat and the waitress gave us a lift to our hotel. It was a Best Western but it was really nice and had an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi! We had a swim in the pool and then took a walk down to the town and had dinner in a cool steakhouse where there are peanuts on the tables and everyone just puts all the shells on the wooden floor. Then we went to Safeways, yes Safeways, no Mo's here lol!Next day we got a lift from the maintenance guy from the hotel to the train station and had to sit outside the portakabin on seats for an hour or so as it's the same train that comes from Chicago so its got quite a way to come before it gets here so it tends to be late. We got to Las Vegas late in the afternoon, not THE Vegas but Las Vegas in New Mexico and got to our hotel which was miles out and we felt quite conned as there were way better ones there that were not on the net and the TV did not have Animal Planet lol! However we did get a transportation car there which was only 75 cents so that was even better than a taxi. It did have a pool and a Jacuzzi but they were inside which is no good for tanning lol! The town supposedly boasts lots f old architecture but cant say we seen much! We just took a walk to the town and had lunch in a traditional 50's diner with Elvis music and cool stuff on the walls from the past. Next day we spent practically the whole day in the train station as you have to be there an hour before and it was 3 hours late. While we were waiting Craig let off but he forgot he was sitting on a wooden bench so it echoed so loud through the whole building, I am so glad it was just us lol. We got to Albuquerque, New Mexico quite late so just made he way to our hotel and went out for dinner to a cool Mexican place where the waitress called us 'babe' and they played loud Spanish music, it looked like 'The Anchor' or something from the outside but it was nice. We had the biggest bed in the world here it was like 6 feet wide so we didn't need to argue over space lol! We managed to finally get a phone card and call home as well which was nice and eventually caught my socialite gran haha! Now we are just on the train to Los Angeles and we are glad it's the last one, although it's the worst (16.5 hours through the night) as they are full of screaming kids and parents who cant control them. Its been nice to see the smaller places but we are looking forward to getting off the train and onto our Trek America tour on Monday to see more of the tourist spots and places more off the beaten track, it will be nice to be in a group as well for a while and meet some more new people. Lots of love, Eva and Craig xxx
