So we arrived in Chicago at about 9pm and got to our hostel which was not too bad but the staff were a bit useless and they have no bowls so I ate cereal out of a polystyrene cup and Craig ate his out a pot, each day there was someone complaining about bed bugs or having the wrong room or something and there were rats out the back. We knew some would be minging but we thought that would be more likely in Africa! We headed out and got some groceries to make food and save money but stuff is actually quite dear here but cheaper than eating out! On the first day we walked down to the beach at Lake Michigan and had a wee swim and then walked along the promenade to Navy Pier. The promenade is like what you would imagine Venice Beach in LA to be like, full of big boobed girls on blades and runners and big muscley guys, we saw one huge big black guy who's chest was like mine and Craig's put together!! The walk was quite nice, so we walked the whole way, 4 miles - a lot for us!! We had a walk round Navy Pier which is just full of eateries, shops and some fairground type stuff and had a game of crazy golf, Craig bet me but I got 2 hole in ones, as the golfer amongst us Craig was not impressed! At night we headed back to the hostel and Craig made mince n tatties, not great produce here but it was pretty good! Afterwards we got chatting to some Irish girls who are on the end of their gap year and we all went out for some beers. It was cool to get lots of tips and hear all their tips and also their horror stories of getting robbed and how to avoid it and suchlike!Next day we got the bus to Millennium Park as I wanted to try and find a statue that my Gran has a photo of so we could get one too and have one each years apart but we couldn't find it at all and it was too hot to walk around for too long so we headed back along the promenade and stopped at a bit we had seen the day before where you can jump off the side into deep bits of the lake. We jumped in and it was freezing I thought I was going to seize up and my ankle still hurts when I swim from when I hurt it at my work summer do so it took a battering as well. It was more difficult than it looked staying afloat as it was quite rough so we jumped in a couple of times and that did us fine. We walked back along to the beach and had a swim, the lifeguard was off helping someone so we cold take advantage and have a wee swim as the water is cordoned off about 40 metres out and the lifeguards sit in little boats about halfway from this and you are not allowed past them and they are all about 16 as well. .So we had a wee lassie shouting at us to get back and Craig kept shouting "please" at her as they are pretty rude so when we got back to how far you are allowed out I was thigh level so I wasn't impressed being a fully grown adult and a competent swimmer it's a bit annoying not being allowed to swim!! We got a bit hacked off so just headed back to the hostel for dinner.Today we spent about an hour and a half trying to work a phone card to call home and managed just wee Chlobum! Its pretty frustrating how nothing seems to work here and nobody wants to help you! Also am hacked off as we found Cadburys chocolate here and Galaxy and I got some and have left it in the fridge in the hostel but I ate my TimeOut last night so its not all bad lol, I was looking forward to my fix though!!Now we are on the train heading to Garden City in Kansas, we just had dinner and sat with a lovely old couple from California as everyone sits together like on a cruise lol and they well telling us they all watch Keeping Up Appearances on a Saturday night, they are so cute, I told them you would be impressed Dad as they have all the 'tapes' aww bless!! I am typing this in my underwear as we just got off to get something out our bag in the hold and are now totally soaked through, we are glad we couldn't get a refund on our sleeping car as we have our own private room and can hang up our clothes luckily!! The storm is amazing its like a monsoon with huge roars of thunder and big lightening bolts! I'm going to go now so I can get back to having my face pressed up against the window !Hope everyone is good and enjoying the sunshine, think this is the first time that the weather has been better where you are haha!!Love Eva and Craig xxx
