Another wonderful tour- and learned that there are 400k in city, one million on island. We started at the beach of course, and as I turned back to the taxi , I couldn't believe my eyes- Cocina Celiaca - a restaurant dedicated to food for celiac and other people with eating problems! After an overview of the city and seeing the Queen Victoria senior citizen residence that costs all inclusive €1500 per mo with the view of the city, we visited the Hotel Santa Catalina where the King of Spain stays when he visited the island. We went to the Columbus Museum for a bit and saw a nearby church but quickly left the city to drive up into the center of the island to the Caldera of the volcano- not the highest point on the island but interesting to see inside a once active volcano - like Diamond Head! Next to the other side of the island - much more industrial, with airports (commercial and military) lots of wind turbines and warehouses. A bit farther on we reached the drier side where there were lots of hotels, motels and - sand dunes! No need to go to the Sahara...! We saw the Faro de Maspalomas, the lighthouse that sent out its "first beacon of light on February 1, 1890." We then headed back to the ship where we saw preparations for a barbecue on the Lido deck but we waited for Joan to return from her tour and let her know about our find - the Celiaca restaurant! She was amazed- and grateful, since she is celiac- and we took off to have dinner! And even the garlic bread was wonderful.... We were all happy!! We strolled down the boardwalk and while I was looking at glass frames, Joey went in search of, once again, Diet Pepsi. That which he became used to in the US is just not available in Europe... But he came close with Pepsi Light... Every one happy, we headed back to the ship.
