So we got to see the Costa deel Sol - we hired a taxi to drive us around and show us the highlights. Our driver/guide speaks a bit of English so it works out. First the Fortaleza then the sanctuary of the Virgin of Victoria. built in 1497. part was being restored but the altar or pulpit was amazingly detailed. Then to Picasso's house (where he was born) and saw various memorabilia) and the plaza in front of the house. Our guide then took us to a nondescript building that housed an amazing array of religious articles. At Easter penitents dress in outfits (see pix) and carry huge gold and silver "floats" and it takes I think he said 1200 to carry them. Men pay money to participate and the "job" takes 8 hours - no breaks. If they have to leave they must pay again... They shuffle along with their outside hand on the shoulder of the man in front of them. The shorter men are in the middle and the taller on the ends since the weight being carried causes the supports to bend. A short distance away there was a film crew shooting a documentary trying to raise funds to renovate the amphitheater. We kept. commenting that Spain keeps its cities clean. After our tour we strolled through the Picasso Museum and then around the city until we could walk no more, and found a taxi to take us back to the ship. After dinner I happened to look at the schedule for the evening and saw that there was a Dancing with the Stars learn the jive class. I was achy from all the walking today but I couldn't pass up a dance class. Good exercise and a lot of fun - but pressure to learn the combination in about 14 minutes! Especially since I haven't really been dancing for years and never danced a jive ... Despite my challenge I was voted 2nd place tonight. The next class will apparently be the samba - also which I never danced before. I will report on that one when it comes up.
