In the picture there is a castle. We could not see this castle becuase it was covered in scafolding. I dont really see why they couldn't have done it a bit at a time becuase they are doing the whole thing all at once. Apparently its a "new" castle because a drunken soldier back in the day burnt it down so its like only a 18th/19th century number. Which is still pretty old really.
So we're in Bratislava. We met someone in Budapest (an Australien who had been travelling for 3 years - he said the best job he'd ever had was working in the laundry in a hotel, he was kooky) and they said "aparently Bratislava is a must see". So we saw it. I'd say average. I mean its nice, there this really quaint little old town which is really cool and old and stuff, really pretty, definatly worth seeing but that's it really. And seeing as we've been in major cities for ages its like, oh, is that it? Which sounds ungreatful. But we're so friggin' well travelled maaan, it takes alot to make us pull up our socks and say Gee Willikers.
But the old town really is nice though. We arrived here a couple of days ago, couldn't tell you what day, we don't know days anymore... at around 12ish I'd say. We did some peruzing around the old town, in the main square there was this awsome little market full of quaint crap and also some good stuff. So we both bought a couple of pairs of earrings for very cheap price.
We're in a room of 12 and on the first night, there was us, 2 dutch guys, 1 german, 2 americans, 1 hungarian girl and 2 very british boys. We dabbled in conversation with them but they all went out drinking and stuff in the evening so we went to sleep. Then last night, the 2 dutch guys stayed and kept talking over us about themselves (which was very annoying - it is a well known rule that you do the "where abouts are you travelling, how long for" conversation without interruption and feign interest if you're not really bothered) and then 2 new girls from York came too (and 4 hairy english people). But we made friends with the 2 York girls and we chatted with them for ages and exchanged hillarious travelling tales (we decided later that this was nice becuase a. we were talking to new people that wasn't each other for a decent amount of time and b. we have hillarious travelling tales to share!!) and then they made some rice thing and we all ate it and drank wine. They were really lovely aswel so it was fun.
Today we're heading off to Krakow in Poland, doing the sqaure, another old town, apparently there's a Must See clock... and also Auchwitz. Everyone we've spoken to said it's not "good" but it's definatly worth going to. And apparently they do it in a really tactful way, it's not too in your face. Subtly shocking if you will.
That's a 7 hour train journey from about 9 or something. I'm already awake though. For some reason I have a habit of waking up at like 5am here. But today I woke up at 7. That's pretty much a lie in!!
We also had a Very Strange Experience in the laundry room (free!!) yesterday. As did the hairy english boys in our room and rumour has it several others from the hostel...
We went in there to get our washing that had been drying for a while, and this lady with long hair that was thin but also bushy and grey (she looked like she needed a good hair cut really. Though me and B need a good hair cut too. But also becuase we haven't been straightening it for ages its in quite good condition, though mine has taken to going insanely curly, even if I blowdry it. Its quite amusing really) was just sitting in there and we walked in and said "hi" and she said "HI WHERE ARE YOU FROM???!!!" so we said London (a much easier land mark we find than Woking) and we had a semi nice conversation with her about travelling for a while (the Travelling Conversation as mentioned above) and then she wouldn't let us leave. And she started harrassing us about our washing! There wasa pile of obviousaly male pants on the top of the machine and she was like, these are yours! I've been waiting! But we were collecting ours obviuosally becuase we were holding a whole load of lady clothes. She was cerazy.
Eventually we left with all our limbs in tack and came down into the celler/common room to have a look for Poland trains. On the way back up you pass the stairs going up to the laundry room and she was standing up at the top and she shouts at us "YOU! COME HERE!" so we did. Only becuase she had a suprisingly powerful voice for a grey haired lady so we did what she said. And we went into the laundry room and I told B to hold the door open so we could run At Any Point. Like if she tried to touch us or something. (Sounds dramatic but really. You should have seen her). B failed at her duty however but then remembered and opened the door again. Thank god. But there was some issue with the drying machine. It said door open. So I clsoed the door and pressed a combination of buttons whcih was hard becuase there was only about 3 buttons there. But I pretended to Look In The Know and then we said, oh sorry we don't know. But she was very angry! Like it was our personal fault! So we left quickly when she was still shouting.
She was wierd.
Anyway really it was B's turn to do the blog today but we kept on forgetting and everyone else is asleep bar me so I thought I'd rattle on out quickly. So she'll do the next couple.
So yes, we're in Poland today for 1 night, then we're getting a night train (hopefully) to Prague on Sunday night and then meeting Fran at 3ish in the center of Prague on Monday. Meaning today must be Saturday I guess. Then we've only got a couple of weeks left! It doesn't feel like we've been away for this long but then at the same time I can't rememeber what anyone looks like. I probably won't recognise anyone when I'm back. And they won't regocnise me. I'm so tanned I look foreign.
I jest. I'm like a person who has been away. I've got tan lines from the rucksack and stuff. Bodacious.
