So now its Anna writing the blog again... we're all taking it in turns as you may have guessed. So we're in Munich now. Arrived here the other day late in the evening, It was pretty easy to find, just a simple tube away so that was pretty good.
As we only had 1 full day here (we are leaving for Berlin after this) we decided to try and pack lots in... we were going to do the castle in Fussen, and then an art museum in Munich and maybe have a preuze if we have time. So we left camp (a massive tent with 100 of us in there, we have jew/army blankets to cover us and feel like we're in some kind of camp) at about 1030 and asked at reception as to how we would get to Fussen.
"Oh, its only a short train ride away", said the guide books and reception. So we got to the station and had to wait an hour for the train to come. But we're used to that so it's ok. We bought bagettes. Then after like 2 hours on the train, we began to think, something isn't right. Then the train stopped and apparently it was the last stop. So we got off.
We switched trains, buses, coaches, all of them. Eventually we got there. Guess how long it took us. Remember this is a "short train ride away".
6 HOURS! Yes. I bet you're thinking, hang on a cotton picking second, 6 hours isn't a day trip. No it ruddy well isn't. So we got there at 4pm. The castle shuts at 6 and there is an average of 1 hour to 2 hour queues. So we had a snack at a strange restaurant becuase we hadn't eaten yet (thinking that it was a quiclk journey) and then started the 25minute treck up the hill.
It. Was. Hell. So steep! Fran was ok and much like a goat because she is used to stupid mountains becuase of China. We aren't. How embarrassing. So we arrived and could see teh castle and took some pictures. Then all our cameras ran out of battery. I sat on the wall and did some appreciating for a bit more whilst B and Fran went right up to the top and got into the courtyard. Apparently the castle is suppsoted to be the ultimate castle, the one that all other castle pictures are based on and that disney is based on. I mean it was nice but really. 6 hours. And also I didn't really think it looked like disney very much. But maybe I just can't appreciaite a castle when I see one. B and Fran were loving it.
After than we came back down and went to the train station. Then we had to wait another hour for the train. Ruddy trains. You wouldn't have this in England. And so we eventually made it home at just before 11. So really, it took us 6 hours to get there, and 2.5hours to get back.
And hurrah! We are going to spend another 10 hours on a train to Berlin today. Its a good job we don't mind train journeys. S'all I'm gonna say folks.
