Time to start the touristy thing. First off, a visit to the Yorvik Viking Centre. (York is the anglacised name of Yorvik). They have a ride going through a re-creation of what York would've been like in 900AD). As an added bonus you also get to enjoy the wonderful odours of the time, including an especially pungent sewer street scene, complete with constipated Viking. Although Tom thought it was cool that he was of an age where he'd be going off to battle, he preferred the modern day shops. Guess it's hard for fish and bones to compete with PSP's.
On the walk from there to the Castle Museum Ian and Tom climbed Clifford's Tower - or what's left of it. Neil, Gill and Sally remained at the base allowing for extra photo oppurtuninties (Yeah, right!)
The Castle Museum was really good. They had a tour/activity book for kids, with which we all sort of took part. Walking throught the ages of York was a lot more fun, yet worrying at the same time. It surely is a sign of one's age the more one recognises, from their past, of the exhibits!
With everyone famished we all partook in a good old Pork Pie from Scott's for lunch in the city centre. We didn't mean to feed the pigeons, but the crumbs had to go somewhere.
We drove out to the country for tea at a nice little pub called the Kings Head in Marsham, that Neil and Gill had been to before. Tom was rather tired and slept most of the way there and back. By which time the jetlag had hit the oldies too.
