Made it through the long flights without any dramas. Tom was really good and managed to sleep a reasonable amount on the last flight. Singapore Airlines is definitely the best of all those we've travelled to date. The service was great. The A380 was a bit disappointing though. It may be the largest passenger plane in the world but there appears to be a lot of wasted space and we had less room than on the leg before on the Boeing-777.
Arrived pretty much on time on what was shaping up to be the hottest day of the year (28C - sorry Wellington). The drive up to York to meet Neil and Gill was uneventful. I think Tom is a little in awe at the number of cars, after witnessing a 3 lane, 2-3 mile traffic jam on the other side of the M1. Neil and Gill both look great for their long break and it was nice to finally see them again. A quick beer, a chat, then it was off to bed for the oldies for a quick nap. Tom slept in the car on the way up so he stayed up showing Neil his PSP.
Feeling refreshed (well telling ourselves we were), we all went for a walk around York city centre. It's quite compact really. Not sure how much info Tom managed to retain or understand, no doubt some of it stuck.
A few more beers and a lovely dinner thanks to Gill rounded off our first day just perfectly.
