Used our Hop On and Hop Off tickets again today to head over to the American Natural History Museum, the one captured in the movie, Night at the Museum. We snapped some pics along the way. The world globe outside the Trump Building and the picturesque St John's Cathedral which is unusual due to the fact that they only completed the full turrets on one side...our tour operator thought this was most amazing and he mentioned it often!!! At the museum, we wandered through the various exhibitions trying to find anything which might relate to the movie. I was surprised that there were no signs or adverts relating to the film being used for publicity. I guess the film really is old news now! We found the dinosaur easily enough and then searched high and low to find the Easter Island head who wanted gum in the film. It would seem that we were not the only ones looking for film links as the area around the head was packed with people lining up for photos just like we were. Overall, the museum was quite good and we enjoyed our wanderings before returning to the bus for the ride back.
As it was our second to last night we decided to visit the Empire State Building and brave the 2 hour long lines. Luckily, we were early enough to miss the super long cues but late enough that by the time we reached the top it was dark. We grabbed audio guides and headed up, lining again to get the lifts. The view up there was amazing. We were glad that we decided to head up at night because it made the view quite different from when we climbed the Rockefeller Building. The city lights stretched forever and we tried to identify those places that we had visited. Times Square was so lit up that it looked like day time, even from up where we were. While up in the Empire State Building we tackled the Skyride. It was described as a 4D tour of New York and it was. We were in moving seats and the screen showed us flying all over New York. The effect wasn't amazing but the ride was still quite enjoyable and again we picked out places we had visited. The Empire State Building was the highlight of the day for me. The perfect way to end a night in New York City.
