Today we went to Montmartre known as the artist district. Famous artists such as Picasso and Monet worked or had studios around the district. From the metro it's a quick walk up the hill to the stairs of the Basilica of the Sacré Cœur, which is a pretty, big white domed church. It's quite a couple stairs to the top but once you get up there the view is amazing. You can see over the tops of all the buildings in north Paris! After we drank in the view for a bit we went inside the Basilica where service was being held so we had to be super quiet and couldn't take any pictures. From there we walked around the district and it was so interesting to see all the artwork on the streets not only in stores but colorful and intricate graffiti on the road and buildings. There were so many artists out selling their work and doing portraits and caricatures of people. Watching them as they drew was pretty amazing and the paintings were unreal, of all the different and gorgeous sights of Paris. The art really engulfs you, even as we ate dinner we were completely surrounded by artists, easels, charcoal, and pictures. It was like an island of art; Nicholette particularly got stranded when a cute old man suckered her into getting her portrait drawn hah. Our waiter had drawn us a very handy map on a napkin so we could go find Moulin Rouge and the love wall next! The love wall is this huge blue wall with "I love you" written in every language. It was pretty amazing and I wish we had more time to see it but we got kicked out for about 5 minutes while we still struggled to take photos even though we were being yelled at in French. Woops didn't know the place closed! Our next stop was Moulin Rouge and on the way we got another interesting taste of Montmarte as we all got serenaded by 3 guys playing guitar and singing through an apartment window. The atmosphere in Montmartre is just so mellow and creative I love it. You get a whole different feeling as you walk the street of Moulin Rouge, however, not so much mellow hah. Lets just say there are some interesting stores and even more interesting characters to be seen on that walk. We took some pictures and then made our way to Pompidou to meet Bojana and eat wayyyy too much ice cream!
