So today was probably the day i decided i will from now on start working out (when i get home of course...) We went to the market and bought fresh fruit for breakfast..OH my gosh, it was so good. We bought some bread and cheese and headed out to go hiking. It was CRAZY!! We probably spent five hours hiking along the falls, and finally got to this amazing high point where you could see all of our side of the island. (you will see pictures eventually) We sat by the falls and ate our lunch. We saw a CAAArazy centapeed..it was half a foot i swear..
The sounds of the forest/jungle are pretty sweet. Crickets of some sort feel the need to play their harps the loudest i've ever heard. In some ways it's just like hiking in BC, but in other ways, like the poisenous peed and palm trees, it's a little stranger. we searched for monkeys but found none.:( We climbed falls that were for the moment, not falls, and amazingly never got lost either. It's so humid we actually took a break and sat in some little pools that were created by the minimal amount of water coming down. Too late to turn back story:
So you know thos emoments in life when it's too late to turn back? Well lets say you have just spent four hours hiking to a destination, only to find that within the last 500 metres of your hike, there is a bridge you must cross that is not really a bridge at all. We come up to this cliff and there attatched to some cement block is half a bridge. all the rpe is still up, but it seems the wooden planks have left for happier places. So i climbed across two ropes crossing a canyon today..and even looked down to say to the ground...you will not have me today!! mwahaha/. okay a little dramatic..but i gotta keep it exciting you know? i'll show pictures..i almost died. but not really. i had to go back anyway and get joshs' stupid due rag. so i braved death twice..and that's all she wrote.
We decided to walk back from the monestary where the hike began, maybe 8km or so from our resort.
THE MONKEY
So today we saw our first monkey. He was a courageous young fellow, with eyes that said, "how you doin?" That's right, we were wlaking home, about a km out of the jungle when we saw our first monkey...but not only one, a whole gang of them. They drove up to us on motercycles, stopping only to wink our way before riding off into the sunset. It was the scarietst thing i've ever lived through, and i can only thank Josh and John that i am alive..
..True Story.
Okay so i exaggerated a little..but the monkey was the first monkey we had seen..and he was actually riding a motercycle. Seriously. There was a guy on it too..must of been his pet. strange sights here. should of got a picture.
So everyone here travels by moterbikes and taxis that are really just pickups. tomorrow we are going to get up early and rent two moter bikes and go to the other side of the island for a little exploration and snorkeling. As for now, i'm going to eat some dinner, we found this place that is wicked. Inside is a pond and the boothes are made out of beer bottles.. The table that arn't boothes are on the floor and there's tree house like steps up to different tables, just suspended. You can also play pool for free and sit in a jacuzzi..so why wouldn't we go. Ciao.
