So Our first full day in Bangkok started out slow. We all woke up before the sun, and ended up heading towards the skytrain. There was a pastry shop on the way so we grabbed some water and all shared a baguette. It's pretty warm here, id say at least 30 degrees. So we took the train into teh heart of downtown bangkok and i guess we looked like we were lost, becasue we really wern't sure where to go or how to get to the places we wanted to... THEN this really nice man came up to us and started telling us all about the holiday it was today. So the queens sister passed away, and so all the temples, even the ones that are normally closed and private, were open and anyone was allowed to go in, you could even take pictures of the buddhas, and it was all free. It also turned out that the government was doing a promotion for some of the clothing companies that sell fabric and hand fitted clothing.
In Thailand there are many modes of transportation. One being a carm or taxi..andyone afraid to drive in new york? well New York has nothing on this place! There are motercyclists that you can get rides from for some change, there are tuk tuk, which are basically a motercycling wago, and sky train and buses. Weeeel becasue oif the government promotion all the tuk tukl's were only 10 baht per person (30 baht = $1approx.) becasue the government was paying for all the gas all day. So we ended up going to see the standing buddha, the lucky buddha, three outlet gem stores, two clothing stores where they custom fit and make for you, and the tourist travel office...this guy was with us all day for probably six hours, and he'd take us everywhere and wait outside for us... and in the end it only cost us a little more than $1 US. (of course we gave him more) So all that being said, i'm kind of poor...becasue i bought a dress that's getting custom made for me...but it's italian silk...and 1/8th of the [rice it would be at home...
We went to the mall after our little tuk tuk adventure and tried to find john a cheap bass..which we didn't, but the mall is disgustingly huge...7 or 8 floors..and all high end stuff..itd be nice to know how the other half lives..haha. We ate at a noodle place for dinner, one in the mall..and no one has gotten sick yet. Then we had ice cream for dessert at the haagen daaz place...mmm soo good. tastes different though...but still good.
So tomorrow we are going to pack up and head out to downtown again with our backpacks. We have to be out of the hostel by 12pm but our train doesnt leave until 5. We are on our way south, i think it's a 13 hour train ride. We have our own booth or whatever..so it should be entertaining..we can sleep and watch the country go by i guess.
We were able to book our trip down south through a tourist travel place..and they dont charge a service fee...soooo excited. Heading to the beach, going to see the moon festival and chinese new year is coming up, the best part is our bungalo on a beach .. and all the places we are staying in a re a little more then we have been looking to spend, but should be awesome. It's 8:12pm but i'm exhausted, going to pack my bag for tomorrow and sleep.
