Bangkok is very crazy, one minute we're all loving the people the culture etc and the next we feel like people are just out to rip us off.
We did attempt to get straight into the time zone here but ended up sleeping in til half 1 yest but feel ok, not affected really.
We've been keeping our heads wise so far but did fall for a tuk tuk driver who told us he'd take us to chatuchak market and then ended up giving us a detour to a 'tourist info office' and a silk shop but we refused to buy any of it cus we're aware of the scams these tourist offices do. We've been sticking to public transport which is brilliant, seems to be free buses after a certain time and only 7baht during the day. For longer journeys we'll just be using government transport which is safer and cheaper.
We've been having a great laugh and spirits seem to always be up even when we're being scammed by tuk tuk drivers (we'll be putting up the lessons we learnt in just one day in Bangkok so definately go to our blog, it's very funny).
So far we've watched the ireland match in an irish pub named mulligans, eaten spring rolls and pad thai from street stalls, laughed at the possible uselessness of our mozzie nets, wandered amazed around the Chatuchak market (15000 stalls) and bought a watch, watched bangkok wizz by on the airconditioned (very important) skytrain, stupidly went to the ping pong show and immediately regretted it, found our way around bangkok on public transport, haggled and still got had, had fantastic food in a restaurant called 'Cabbages and Condoms' who give you condoms at the end of your meal instead of mints, cooled down in the oasis that is our rooftop swimming pool and have gotten on pretty quickly that the best places to go are where the Thais go themselves.
The chatuchak market is definately one of the highlights of Bangkok, there were very few tourists which meant no-one was jumping on us for a sale. It was the way Thailand would be if tourists never came here. A popular drink here is chatchat dan tai which is kind of like iced tea with condensed milk. The vendor mixes it in a way similar to cocktail shakers, swinging the liquid over his head into the containers. It's quite hard to describe, got a brilliant video of it though! The whole market was huge and the each little alley actually had to be numbered. Some of it is in a building that when you go deep inside, you could easily get lost, the air becomes so thick it's hard to breathe and goes so dark you wouldn't know it was daylight outside.
