3rd July 2009 4-55pm. Internet cafe Toronto.
Just popped into the internet cafe to do one of our last blogs, upload some photos if we have time. Thought we would just check that our flight time tomorrow has not changed.............instant sinking feeling when we discover that we are confirmed onto the BA flight from Lester Pearson Airport tonight!, due to take off at 7pm; OH SH*T!!!!!!!!!
5-10pm Hotel Lobby
Packed faster that we ever thought possible, check out and the hotel kindly calls us a car.
5-20pm In car on way to airport
5-50pm BA check in desk
We ran up to the desk and breathlessly explain that we are late for the 7pm flight. After much discussion the check in clerk apologises for spoiling all our future flights as she has to upgrade us to CLUB WORLD!.
We have to carry our rucksacks across the airport to check them in as the nearest machine has broken down
6-30pm Departure Gate
Breathlessly boarding the plane we are served champagne and we fly home overnight in a bed (this normally costs over 3 times as much as economy). A fitting end to an epic trip.
We are now staying with Abby's mum in Hertford and recuperating from our adventures. All visitors gratefully received. We are living within a very tight budget and have not put the car back on the road. So everything that we need has to be obtained by walking, cycling, via public transport or needs to be delivered. Abby cracked the whip and sent Eric back to work on Monday 5th, and Abby also hopes to be earning some money quite soon. Hopefully we will be planning another trip before the end of the year....to be continued......
Some friends asked about favourite places and foods on our message board.
Favourite food: Abby-Sushi in Christchurch, New Zealand. Eric- Leberkase(German livercheese meatloaf) with sauerkraut in french bread in Nelson, New Zealand. Favourite place to eat: Abby- Nothing beats being fed hearty food in a tent on a mountain in Nepal, particularly the early morning cup of coffee!, but the food in Cambodia was also surprisingly tasty (although not deep fried tarantula). Eric- Takeaway(can't remember the name!) where we eat standing at a table in the street in Karol Bagh, Delhi.
In answer to your question "what was your favourite place: The masses of people walking in the street in Chandhi Chowk, Old Delhi. And motorbikes whizzing in all directions in Ho Chi Minh City. View from across the river of Taj Mahal at sunset. Walking on Fox Glacier, N.Z. Lava flowing into the sea on Big Island, Hawaii. Marjorie Glacier from cruise ship, Alaska. Canyons, waterfalls and glaciers on the Icefields parkway in Alberta, Canada. Avoiding potholes on mopeds in Fiji. But probably the best experience of all was cycling and walking around the temples of Angkor Wat, Cambodia.
