The finale to our Gap year is a 10 day cruise around the volcanic Islands of the Galapagos.
Islands visited with our Naturalist Guide, Walter, were Santa Cruz, Floreana, Espanola, Seymour, South Plaza and Bartolome, to name a few from our lovely 16 berth boat called Pelicano.
There were a great mixed bunch of fellow passengers from Canada, Australia, Germany, Ireland, U.S and Denmark.
This was truly a once in a lifetime experience that we would thoroughly recommend; the Sealions and Iguanas are everywhere and oblivious to the tourists right next to them and what can I say about the birds?, we were close enough to touch nests with chicks in them (although this is strictly forbidden) and the parents were totally unconcerned- that is what makes this paradise so special, man is not considered a threat.
Birds encountered include Blue footed and Nazca Boobies, Frigatebirds, Pelicans, Tropicbirds, Galapagos Penguins, Hawks, Herons, Albatrosses, Mockingbirds, Darwin´s finches and Egrets. And on the marine front while snorkelling; White tipped Sharks, Rays and Turtles at very close quarters and numerous reef fish. And of course the giant Tortoises!
We will be home by the beginning of December, and we are looking forward to catching up with everyone and on behalf of A & E and our associates we would like to thank you for supporting our blog.
