Howzit!
Unfortunately I haven't been able to write a blog since I've been in South Africa until now. I didn't have internet whilst I was at Donna's but have now moved and fortunately I do have access!!
My first week in SA was interesting to say the very least! I was staying with Donna and her two children, Reese (6) and Reagan (9) and Donna's partner Andy, in Waterfall, Durban. Donna and I were meant to be going to the Durban July on the Saturday (5th July) but Andy didn't want to go, didn't want to be left with the kids, and hadn't organised a babysitter...also the weather wasn't that great either so that fell through. Instead we went to a lovely little pub/fete at a place called Meercats where they had a lamb and pork spit, a braai, vetkoek etc, it was a really nice day, sat in the sun with a Hunter's (cider) and a steak burger...mmm!! In the evening we went to some of their friends house for a braai and to watch rugby too.
Sunday we went to another friends house for an all day jol (party) and braai (bbq)....which was where things changed. Without going into too much detail, when we got home from that (alive, I swear, only because I spent the entire journey back praying for protection over us all - stoned/drunk drivers scare the life out of me) Donna told Andy to leave...and a whole lot of commotion followed. As a result, she took the week off work to sort everything out (insurance/banks/driving licence etc) and I spent a lot of the time looking after the children so she could get all this done without whining children! I didn't mind this, I was glad to be of some use, and I got to watch lots of kids movies that I'd secretly want to see for ages!! When Donna had sorted her stuff she took us out for treats....Ushaka (aquarium), a meal on the beachfront and to the cinema to see Kung Fu Panda - I highly recommend it!! It was all good! Then on Sunday we went to Tala Game Reserve in search of wildlife! It was awesome...giraffe, hippo's, game, birds etc. The only thing we couldn't find was rhino and crocs!
Sunday afternoon I left Donna's and came to Pam and John's house in Hillcrest, Durban. On Monday, Pam and I did a tour 'up the hill' and went on a zulu experience! It was amazing! We went in hosues like the tribes live/cook/meet in, learnt about their culture and watched zulu dancing! I also bought an amazing, typical African, canvas painting which I will make sure I show off to you all when I'm back! I'm proud of it! Yesterday Pam had to leave to go do some work in Jo'burg so it was just Gemma (her daughter), Kirsty (Gemma's best friend), Natasha (Pam's son's girlfriend) and I around...Gemma and Natasha have had to work but Kirst and I spent a few hours sitting in the sun, listening to music, watching films etc and then last night the 4 of us got a KFC, I was introduced to 'cane'....it's not like vodka but I don't know what it is like... and we had a girly night in which was cool.
I'm not sure on our plans for this evening but tomorrow night we are going to Pietermaritsberg for a night out, it's meant to be student night, so I'm sure that'll be fun! Then on Friday I am flying back to Zambia...I'm quite excited about it because I miss the people there. I'm actually sad that I only have two weeks left there although I am sooooo excited to be coming home!!! I miss everyone like crazy and can't wait to catch up and see everyone! Kaye, if you read this, PLEASE come to the airport with my mummy!! I doubt Andy will have the idea to ring her and ask if he can but I know you love me enough to!! Hehe. I apologise in advance for all the south African terms/saying's I have picked up, which I know will irritate you all...feel free to hit me/shout at me each time I use them!
I shall write again next week or at some point when I am back in Zambia and fill you all in on my travels! Take care, I miss you all!
God bless!
Lots of love xxx
