I don't think yesterday could have been any better if it had tried...
For days everyone at work has been going on and on about Big Day Out...It's been going round Australia for a while, and yesterday it was in Perth. Loads of people from work were going, it was going to be a beautiful day, and, most importantly, Rage Against The Machine were headlining. It was going to be slammin'. And I had to work. Meh. C'est la vie. We had a great day on the boat, did some lovely dives, sunbathed. Blah Blah Blah. And then I had to drive everyone back to the city. Little did I know...When we got back to the shop, everyone got out of the van and b*****ed off, except this really nice Kiwi couple who'd been snorkelling with us. They came over to me and asked if I had any plans for the evening.
"Nah...probably just going home, having a few beers and going to bed early. Why?"
"It's just that we've got two tickets to Big Day Out. We've been 4 times now, and we're not that fussed about going again. Do you want them?"
Ummm. Is the Pope Catholic?!
Five minutes later I'm whizzing them round to their hotel. Ten minutes later I am the proud owner of two FREE tickets to Big Day Out. With just enough time to spring Claudia from work 2 hours early, shower and jump on a train to arrive for the tail end of Arcade Fire.
OH MY GOD. It was f**king amazing. We saw the whole of Silverchair and Bijork, which was so cool. And then Rage. Oh my god, Rage. It was incredible. I have never sweated so much ever. We managed to get to the far edge of the mosh pit for about 20 minutes before realising it probably wasn't the place for two 5'5" women, and then moved a bit further out where we had plenty of space to smash it up...My neck still hurts from headbanging for a solid half an hour. We made the mistake of staying right till the very end, which, while awesome, meant about a 30 minute scrum for the train, which was more intense than the mosh pit. But every single second of discomfort was worth it. It was just so fantastic.
And that's just Australia all over. You just never know what's going to happen, even in the next half hour. It's just completely the opposite to home...here, you don't make any firm plans, because in five minutes you'll bump into someone you know on the street and they'll invite you to the beach. Or to go shopping. Or they'll give you Big Day Out tickets. This is so my kind of town.
