I don't think I've ever been so hot. It's 38 degrees, and it's my day off, so I'm sweltering in the city instead of being nice and cool on the dive boat. But I can't complain...I'm having my first 'weekend' in a month...two whole days off in a row, and it's so amazing. Yesterday I had one of the best days I've had over here. I went for breakfast, which is now my favourite meal to go out for - I only ever have breakfast on my days off, and it's a big social event with as many people as we can and as much food as we can eat. It lasts for several hours at least. Then a bunch of us trundled down to the beach and hung out there for about 6 hours, drinking beer, listening to music, playing the guitar and singing, annoying touros with the smell of 'funny' cigarettes...just your usual Thursday afternoon. It was just so relaxing, knowing that I didn't have to go to work the next day...today I had breakfast again (two days in a row...so decadant!) and finally went shopping and bought some clothes that I can wear out in public! Now I'm just chilling (or baking) in the sunshine waiting for Olly's girlfriend Claudia to come home...we're going out for dinner tonight before she goes to see Bon Jovi in concert...she's so excited!
My injuries are finally starting to heal...the grazes on my knee and my toe turned into quite impressive sea ulcers that got pretty deep before I was told I couldn't dive for a week...so I've been working in the dive shop on the island and going slightly crazy. But I'm back on from tomorrow, and I can't wait to get back in the water. I also ripped off half a fingernail, but that's totally healed now. Although it bled in quite an alarming fashion when I did it!
Tomorrow is Australia Day. I'm not really sure how to get across just how big a deal Australia Day is in Perth. Everywhere else it's just another long weekend. But Perth have really made it their holiday, and everyone is so excited. People have been asking me for weeks what I'm doing for Australia Day, and I'm a bloody Pom. I'm working, but as a nod to the holiday I have bought an Australian flag bikini. It's tacky as hell, and I can't wait to wear it! It's going to be crazy busy on the island, but as long as I'm not in the shop I don't care!
Right, it's time for me to go get ready to go to dinner...huzzah...more food!
