Ems and Steve Travelling
Hey!
Sorry we haven't written for so long! We have been really busy! We travelled from Noosa to Hervey Bay and arrived just in time for our briefing for Fraser Island (the largets sand island in the world)!
We met our groups (11 of us) and ordered our meat and alcohol and then went shopping! The next morning we had to get up at 5.15 am!! We had to check every piece fo equipment and pack it in our 4x4! The drivers then had another video to watch and had to learn how to drive the 4x4. We had a 3 day/2 night trip. It was cut slightly short on the first day as we missed the 9 o clock ferry. The next one was at 10.30 so it wasn't too bad but it meant we had to drive staright through without stopping due to tides! We drove across the island and up the beach to a place called Dundaburra where we camped on the beach, cooked our tea and then had a few drinks in the van while it rained!
The next day we drove to a campsite and used its facilities and then went to Indian Head where we saw some whales. We also had a walk on the beach! We then drove to Lake Garawongera and had lunch and also stopped in Happy Valley! We camped on the beach again and it rained again!
The last day we got up and had hot dogs and beans for breakfast. We drove to Rainbow Gorge but then realised we didnt really ahve time to walk to it so we drove on to the best part of the island! It took us a while to get to Lake MacKenzie because of all of the puddles but when we got there it was worth it! When we got there it started chucking it down so we wiated for a bit but it didn't stop so we went swimming anyway. The sand was pure white and the water was turquoise in the shallows and deep blue where it got deeper. It was gorgeous despite the fact that it was raining! After our chilly swim we drove to the ferry port where this time we were an hour early (no chance of us missing this ferry)! When we arrived back to Hervey Bay we had to have cold showers and when we tried to wash our stuff it made holes in some of it. It all turned out OK though as the hostel washed and dried all our clothes for us and replaced the stuff that got holes in (nice new cushion for me and a t-shirt for Steve). Feeling soryy for ourselves we had a nice Chinese buffet for dinner and a bottle of wine that we bought in the Hunter Valley!
The next day we sat on the beach and walked half an hour to a museum that was closed!! Our bus was at half midnight so we hung around till then!
