Today was not a very exciting day around the city. We woke for another not so great Holiday Inn Express breakfast where the bacon was like cardboard and the egg in the omelete is substitute. But for a breakfast that is included in the hotel price, it is alright especially because it means you can have cereal, toast and bagels without spending a fortune by eating out.
Today we walked down along Fisherman's Wharf again as I was interested in getting a San Francisco jacket or oullove and a t-shirt. We walked down Pier 39 and into the complex in the middle which has many different gift shops and eateries. After looking in every shop and being very picky about the quality I found the one I wanted in The Bay Company souvenir store down on the corner Jefferson St between Hyde St & Leavenworth St. It was really good quality a nice fit and only $20. It was a bargain for a soft and warm hoodie.
After that we walked up the street to where the Cable Cars turn around and sat in the newly shining sun. Today has been the best weather we have had over the past two and half days in San Fran as it was still cold but not very windy and also there was no rain and the clouds seemed to disapear during late morning.
We then went to the Wharf again and finally got some clam chowder from Nick's Lighthouse and i have to say i really enjoyed it. I was expecting it to be really fishy and have lots or any seafood in there but i was completely wrong, It wasnt fishy at all and i dont even think it had seafood in it but it was still delicious. The sourdough roll it came in was a nice salty touch to the soup which could have used some seasoning. The part i loved the best was scraping the leftover soup up with a spoon and combining both bread and soup as it made it thicker and added a nice tang from the soudough.
This evening we went out for dinner with a friend we first met up with in San Diego during our last visit to the US. None of us were very hungry after grazing on small things all day so we thought of getting something small instead of going to a proper sit down, 3 course meal. Our friend hadnt yet seen Pier 39 so we showed him around there and then went into the shops inside to find something to eat. We ended up at Players Sports Grill and Arcade and personally was disspointed. I was expecting a rich and meaty lasagne when i orded it but instead a got a lasagne with more cheese than meat and a tomato sauce flavour that just didnt taste right to me. Also the service was quite poor and the food wasnt much better. The only good thing was that most of the food including the burgers and steaks were from about $10 - $20 US which is cheap for a proper meal.
Tomorrow we are flying out to Seattle where we will spend a week. Hopefully we will have some better weather. Fingers crossed.
