Once again i woke up feeling incredibly content!I was still in Paradise. I had breakfast and afterwards Pip, Fred, Tans and i went to visit a local village on the ilsand. Our giude was a very smiley costa rican guy our age who had the most interesting and infective laugh! We drove round to the island by boat, it wasn far, and on arrival we caught glimses for colour through the trees. The village was called Natowa. There are four villages on the ilsand and guests are welcomed into the village by drinking Kava (a narcotic) drink made from the root of the KAva plant with the Chief who turned out to my surprise be very regular! The village was really beautiful. I for some reason hadn expected lush greenery and tropical flowers intertwined by gently flowing steams. It was so beautiful adn so full of life. As we walked through everyone called out Bula and Welcome and smiled and waved at us...something that would never happen in England! Children wondered around shyly glancing at you and some came runningh up to us to say hello. Such a buzz! Tucks showed us around and pointed out certain important feature like the church etc... We went and met the chief, David and we sat around in a circle with him on the fllor and talked about education, religion, traditions and farming....we even touched upon cannibalism!Unfortunately they had run out of Kava and so were unable to drink it (did that make us unwelcome) I think not because instead we had coconut milk! Tucks opened up soft coconuts for us all and we drank the milk from the coconut...a lot of milk! Two little children aged about 3 came and sat with us and we gave them some of the coconut skin...one had an umbrella and was absolutely adorable, he sat down next to me and just stared at me! We then went to Tuckś house which was a wooden house very similar to all the other houses, we sat outside and his mother bought us freshly squeezed lemon juice...so yummy! Tucks the cut up a hard coconut into shavings and gave us each a handful, he then put some of the shavings in some cloth and squeezed causing coconut milk to pour out onto our hands causing the shavings to stick together so we could eat them. We also put some of the milk on our skin...i felt like a coconut by the end of the day!I talked to his sister who had played netball the day before and then we went and caught the boat back to the main beach. The waves were really choppy at one point and i turned to look at the driver and Tucks to see there mouths wide open and eyes glaring at something, i turned back around and as i did a massive wave swept up over th ewhole boat and within a second we were absolutely DRENCHED....it was so funny! Laughed for a long time! When we got back we ha d lunch and then i talked with Nick in the hammock for a bit and he summoned up the courage to do a back flip. I watched! I read my book for a while then went to a weaving class with Tans, Pip an Nick (who ended up weaving in the end!) A lady taught us how to weave a bracelet out of pineapple leaves that had been dried in the sun. It was so relaxing, we sat on rugs in the shade and wove our bracelets...lots of concentration was required! I played catch with Nessyś little sister who helped us with the weaving and then went and read my book ´The Kite Runner´....so moving. Fred and Tans had to go back to the mainland with Nick that afternoon so we said goodbye to them and then i went swimming with Pip . We had supper and i met two girls, one whom is going to Leeds next year to do History of Art and has applied to the same hall as me. She was really nice and i got her email address, her name was Fenellla. The Fijians did their dance show again....a little Fijian boy joined in and was so cute, very good-very impressive! After the dancing i went to bed. Another day in Fiji!
