New year's eve! Didn't do much during the day, then got an Uber to North Sydney with Miriam and Ken and arrived in McMahon's Point and was not disappointed. The apartment was absolutely RIDICULOUS. The view, as I was told, was uninterrupted to the bridge, we were low enough to see the opera house underneath the bridge, and had a view of the city on the other side. It was just incredible. The apartment itself was lavish beyond any home I have ever seen; two levels of marbled floors, gigantic ornaments and floor to ceiling windows. I can't do it justice with words!
The champagne was flowing upon arrival and the hostess, Jane, soon started putting the nibbles on the table. More and more guests showed up (probably totalling about 40 people) and I got chatting to Brianna (the hostess' niece) and her friend Kate who are about the same age as me. I spent the majority of the night with them. I also got chatting to the daughter (Steph) of the host (Laurence) who asked if I would be available for house sitting for them when they go on a cruise around New Zealand (cue Emma turning very green) should they decide not to put their cat in a cattery!
The fireworks were a sight to behold - as I have never braved the banks of the Thames on 31st December I really had never seen anything like it. They were coming off the bridge and all over the harbour off barges and down the rivers in the distance as well. It was amazing. I felt very superior looking down on all the common folk packed tightly in together on the ground below us and all around the harbour, and thanked my lucky stars I didn't have to wait in a queue 20 people deep just to go to the toilet in a portaloo!
We left at about 1am and joined the throngs of people heading back home. Ken almost got in a fight with a security guard after we had successfully managed to navigate our way through an entire apartment block before being told at the exit that we could not go one foot further to leave and that we would have to find another way. But he just about managed to keep his cool and we eventually Ubered our way back home!
