After 14 hours on the train and a 4 hours drive we arrive in Halong Bay, not that you could see it because it was so cloudy. Late morning we drove to the marina and went on a trip around the bay which was really beautiful even though the weather wasn't the best. We had a short stop for kayaking, Lauren and Lenny were hilarious not being able to steer, they headed straight into someone's floating house.
Lunch wasn't too shabby, shark soup, prawns, crab, whole fish, noodles, rice, vegetables, spring rolls....but unfortunately it seems seafood as much as I like it doesn't like me so better stay away from it for the rest of my trip.
We then visited a cave, I've never seen anything like it. They had put colourful lights inside to make it look nice and obviously so you can see but even without these it was pretty amazing.
In the evening we were a bit disappointed with the restaurants, after a close call at a very ropey looking place with dogs and cats in the kitchen we found somewhere else and had a very confusing but ok dinner. Wandered around the night market, all the same stuff. I'm trying to wait as long as I can before I start buying things.
Up early for a 3 mile run with Katherine then time to go, back on the bus to Hanoi...and only 2 more days till my friends go home :(
Halong Bay - a real let down won't be hurrying back
