We left the pretty little island early on our big boat and obviously it was a beautiful day...it always is when we have to sit on the bus for hours. My tan is fading fast, get me to that bali beach quick!
The road is extra bumpy today which makes for that extra special travel sickness feeling and the earache I had for 3 weeks at the beginning of the trip feels like it's coming back to haunt me. Nobody will want to be my friend anymore after our 10 hour travel day, probably safer if I sit at the back by myself.
The day is broken up with a couple of little stops, it's surprising how exciting a visit to the mini mart can become. I've given in and bought man razors, I don't think women here shave their legs...I'll try and check. On the upside of ripping my legs to bits later, I did find a bar of galaxy so that'll ease the pain.
This section of my trip is a new route G Adventures are running, only the second time a group has done it and that is now very obvious. Some of the places we've been are kind of pointless with literally nothing to see or do, or maybe there are things to do but it's not easy to prise this information from our guide. We stopped at a pineapple plantation which had been massively oversold. I would have said 'we're going to stop and look at a pineapple growing at the side of the road for 3 minutes and the an old lady will get her machete out and chop us some pineapple, you will eat the pineapple and then we'll get back on the bus'. Don't get me wrong I love pineapple as much as the next person but even I couldn't make this sound like fun day out.
The next little stop was at a food market, I was minding my own business looking at the fruit, vegetables and spices when I heard some splashing. I watched a man take quite a large fish from the bucket and start slicing it up, I stood there watching for a good while and the poor thing was still alive the whole time.
Lunch was very local, the toilets the worst I've had to use yet. There was just about five toilets in a row with a 2 foot divider between them, it's ok if you're Asian height but it you're normal height the tiny divider may as well not be there. I tried to go to the furthest away 'cubicle' leaving a woman and her 2 kids by the door. As I walked back I was overjoyed to see she'd just finished peeing all over the floor so that I had to walk through it, in another life maybe we could have been friends but today she was just a dirt bag I wanted to kick.
There were some nice things to look at during the drive, the hills and mountains were pretty and lots of quirky little homes scattered around (maybe they had a nice toilet we could have used). There are so many churches here, all of a sudden in the middle of nowhere you'll just get 4 right next door to each other. We had a toilet/leg stretch/take photo of the view stop, I chose a photo of me and my toilet roll rather than the scenic shot that was on the other side of the road...this is real Indonesia.
Out hotel is lovely, one of the nicest rooms we've had....bit of a difference from the (not so) Mega Inn last week.
Once again we are in the middle of nowhere so it's a crazy dinner in the hotel and early night, tomorrow is a 12 hour drive....yey!!
