We got up at 4.30am with only about 2 hours sleep plus hangover and got a taxi to the airport. When we arrived in Bali you could tell the difference straight away, plenty of fat tourists which could mean only one thing...the prices were going to go up.
We then got another taxi to Sanur where we were told we could get a boat to Gili T. The trip across was a bit more expensive and complicated than I thought it would be, we ended up getting the return trip for about £35...it stated at double that so good job we shopped around. Then we had to wait for a lift to the boat which they said would be around 30 minutes, it turned our to be an hour and a half. The boat was the worst one I've been on, I don't know how I wasn't sick. It was a speed boat and all the bouncing around from side to side was great fun. We finally arrived, sleepy, sick and sweaty but we were here so it was worth it. It was very busy, people trying to sell trips, transport and accommodation. We settled on a bungalow a minute walk from the beach for £15, it had aircon but walls made of that woven brown stuff I hate because I'm convinced the walls are full of spiders but it was just for 1 night and I'd had enough of carrying my bag. After a massive late lunch we just looked around and tried to find a nicer place for the next night, there seemed to be no inbetween so obviously we went for a much more luxurious hotel with pool and enormous room....a little more expensive for £47 a night. We relaxed at a beach bar in the evening and dinner was a 50p corn on the cob...after being so smug about how much money I haven't spent I think Bali will take care of whatever I have left.
I really like it here, it's busy but a relaxed island. People look out of place if they're dressed smartly, not sure how I'll cope having to wear actual shoes again when I get home. There are no cars on the island, just lots of bikes with bad or no brakes and people trying to run you over. The taxis here are horse and carts - who also try and run you over a lot!
Sunday was a pool day, but I could see the ocean from my sunbed...I love it here and am dreading downgrading our accommodation again.
I did 50 laps (or little widths if I'm being honest) and even went for a run, I don't think I've been since Cameron Highlands which feels like a lifetime ago. We had dinner again at the same place, street food. 3 courses for under £2! We've also invested in a bottle of Malibu and have disguised it in water bottles. We spent the evening in the Irish bar watching old people dance and playing cards with a couple of guys from America and Kosovo...I am now master of the game 's*** head'. The highlight of the day though was finding mini cornetto, the only problem was one wasn't enough.
Monday I lay in till 10, the best sleep I've had since I've been away...I want to stay in this hotel forever. Breakfast was equally amazing, banana pancakes, fruit, orange juice that didn't taste like disgusting cordial and wait for it...tea with milk!!! It was a tough day sunbathing, I did 70 laps and thought I'd be good by ordering a salad for lunch. Silly me I should have known my salad wouldn't actually come with any salad, chicken and pineapple in Mayo and a slice of lime? I sent it back asking for some lettuce, I will put money on them trying to charge me for extra lettuce when I check out....well they can try. Late afternoon I took myself off to the beach, I was sat watching the sea when something weird started happening. 2 sunbathing women in bikinis a bit further down the beach, produced a very small baby goat and started bottle feeding it on the sunbed...now that's something you don't see every day.
In the evening we bumped into Helen and Cela from our last tour so had a drink with them and arranged to meet for lunch before we leave tomorrow.
Tuesday we managed to squeeze in a little sun and swim but had to book our boat to Gili Air and also Fridays trip back to the mainland. We met Cela and Helen who took us to a really nice Thai place for lunch, they told us all about their diving the last few days and we exchanged opinions on the people we'd met on the tour. All of us are enjoying being able to do our own thing at the moment.
Now off we go to Gili Air...
