Greetings from Melbourne! Here's what we've been up to since my last update....
Monday- Flew to Melbourne from Sydney with Virgin Blue, Australia's answer to Easy Jet but with a bit more style. We had arranged to meet up with Becky's cousin Rene' in Melbourne, who has been working here for a little while, maybe go out for a few beers or guided tour of the city, but when we rolled up at the hostel we discovered she was also staying here! So just stayed in the hostel had a free bbq and got skanked out of winning the quiz.
Tuesday- Me and Kat went on a mooch around the city to get our bearings and check out the city. We walked along the river, vistited Federation Square, went to a free exhibition in the Arts centre !!!!! (ha ha wasn't like it sounds was on Dame Edna), walked around the park, caught a billion trams (which we didn't pay for naughty girls), and got a free (really was free this time) tourist tram around the city which was very informative and interesting. Not bad for a days work! That night we went to this place called the Crown Complex which is over the road from our hostel. Its a massive complex (and i mean massive) with cinemas, bowling, loads of bars, nightclubs, shops, restuarants and a huge casino. The Australians are mad on gambling there are at least 50 pokie machines in every bar and usually a bookies too in the corner so you can imagine how huge and busy this place was, hundreds and hundreds of pokies and tables all full with people gambling! We just went to the cinema to see Blood Diamond then checked out a karoake bar (don't worry didn't sing).
Wednesday- In the morning me and Kat went to the Museum of Melbourne (we're so cultured now you know!). It was really cool actually had some good exhibits and some interesting stuff but the main reason we went was because they have the original Robinson's kitchen from neighbours!!!! We were so giddy when we saw it even has Scott and Charlene's wedding cake in the fridge ha ha. That night me Kat and Rene' went for a wonder around the city, found a gorgeous little bar by the river front and chilled out there.
Thursday- When Rene' had finished work the 3 of us headed down to St Kildas on the tram which is a little beach front town with a really cool hippy chilled our vibe (ha ha). It was nice though as was far too hot in city (38 degrees whats going on!!!). Laid on the beach, got covered in sand, wandered about, had lunch came home! Stayed in hostel that night as there was a pretty cool band on and free bubbly for the ladies!!! Needless to say we were quite drunk!
Friday- Me and Kat went to the cricket! It was a one day international England vs Australia, of course England lost and it wasn't actually as boring as you may think. It was a long day though got there at 12:30 and didn't get home til 10:45!!!! And it was so hot and sweaty but the MCG stadium was pretty amazing and we managed to get on a row with 6/7 other poms so wasn't too bad (although just about everyone else was Aussie as apparently the Barmy Army have all gone home). It started off well and pretty interesting but by the end I was just watching the crowd... the Aussies are crazy! If you didn't know they like to drink expecially when the cricket goes on for hours and hours so you can imagine the trouble was funny to watch though. But all in all not a bad day and an interesting experience anyway!
