Hey guys....So here I am across the other side of the world!! who would have thought it hey?? Not me...I never thought I would actually get on the flight after leaving Mam and Dad at the airport. Dad (sorry to embarass you but I have never seen you, let alone any other man your age cry that much haha) But I am the best daughter after all so maybe thats why? Flight over was good, I slept most of the way, I put it down to the tears I shed that day. Sat by a crazy Scottish woman called Maggie, who took me under her wing, and a guy called Shane from Cairns, Queensland. The trio are still in touch to this day!
My first two weeks in Sydney were mad. The Wake Up hostel where I stayed was so nice. The security was mega and it was so clean and the general atmosphere was friendly. I met Heather, a girl, 24 from Hemel Hempstead (england) and Conan, 22 from Birmingham (even though he aint got an accent lou!) at the airport, and by luck we were all staying at the Wake Up. The bar at the hostel is called Side Bar, and one of the busiest backpacker bars in Sydney. Thats where I spent my first two weeks every single night I think! No im not an alchy mam its ok. haha. These weeks dragged and the weather was freezing! very windy and rainy and typical me didnt bring any suitable clothing! thanks girls for helping me pack great help!! My second night in Sydney we had been out all night and by the time we had left Scruffey Murpheys (Irish pub) the sun was rising...so me, Heather, Jason, Mal (another two guys from England) and a Polsih girl Tara went down to Syndey Harobur Bridge and watched the sun rise up behind the opera house! OMG what an amazing sight to see!!! Words cannot describe how nice it was I guess you'd have to see it for yourselves.
After spending over a week at the hostel, I moved into a flat near Darling Harbour. I must admit, its not very "backpackerish"...it is brand new and has a swimming pool, gym and jacuzzi downstairs which we can use free of charge! I know...I so feel like Paris Hilton. I am going to have such a shock when I am sleeping rough up the east coast!!! God help me! My flatmates are all really cool. At first there was me (the only welsh in the village) Heather, from England, 2 guys from Sweded called Willham (vilam - think thats how im supposed to say it?) and Erik, 2 guys from Germany called Grisha and Alex, and 2 Italian guys called Andrea and Carlo. Now the Germans got evicted from the Big Brother House (thats what I feel like im in) and 2 girls called Hannah and Lucy, both from England have moved in. Its great, the italians cook, clean, wash up, hoover...everything you could want in a man haha we all get on really well so thats a good thing too.
Ok...my favourite thing ive done since ive been here...Definatley the aquarium. You should have all seen the pics from there in my albums, it was so cool! I seen sharks, penguins, nemo fish!!, spiders, sting rays, crabs, seals, eels, crocs...the list is endless. My favourite thing was the sting ray. It is so smiley check out its face on the pics!! and it is the biggest thing ive ever seen in my life! so much bigger than the sharks! After seeing all those animals I cannot wait to visit Steve Irwins Zoo up in Queensland, its supposed to be so good!
well...just to let you all know I am working on my aussie accent. It is actually coming on quite good. so far I can say "No Emma", "G'day guys", "pass the metho" in a true aussie accent hahah dont be put off by the metho...its asked at work to clean the knives and forks...you know short for metholated spirits lol us aussies love to shorten things see haha
To date Ive had four jobs. Just to let you know I am going for a world record "how many jobs you can get within a space of 7 weeks."
- Job No.1 - Call Centre. Think thats all I really need to say.I know we all hate them ringing us at tea time...very annoying..But for your benefit I will go into detail just to bore you all some more. Yes well...bascially I had to ring up people in Australia and try to sell them "Accidental Death Cover Insurance." Im not being funny or moany cos I know im not born to work, but oh my gosh, this is the hardest job in the world! For one, nobody could understand my accent, I couldnt even get past the opening line of my speech, and for two, who the hell is going to buy that? so many people cursed at me I couldnt handle it. My first day, a lady was furious that id rung her over diner and demanded to speak to my manager..oooops lol yeh so I quit that after day 2
- Job No.2 - Charity Campaigner - Yep another annoying person pestering you for your money..except this time it was out on the streets face to face. I did enjoy it and met some very wierdly interesting people, especially St George who has declared his love for me. I had to quit in the end I was attracting all the freaky ones haha no only joking it was commision based after 2 weeks so i wouldnt be making any money. That forced me out.
- Job No.3 - waitress. This job is short and sweet. I had a waitress job at an italian restaurant, but they could only give me hours every few weeks. So that wasnt enough money for me either.
- Job No.4 - waitress. This is my current job being a waitress at an Australian resturant called Velvet Slide. Its in Darling Harbour. Its a good laugh and the people are really freindly. Only started two days ago so will keep you posted how its going. I will try very hard to keep this job hahah
well....my time is up on the net but I will update you a bit more into what ive been up to and where ive been etc ok
love you all
emzy (my new aussie name louise gave to me)
