Hi Everyone
We've now left Chiang Mai and are in Kanchanaburi (about 150 miles west of Bangkok). On our last night in Chiang Mai we found a good bar with live music right on the riverside. We also ran into a couple from Belgium who we had met on our elephant trek the day before.
Instead of getting the train back to Bangkok we got the bus - big mistake! Buses over here don't seem to have any suspension - it was like being on a rollercoaster for 12 hours. We didn't get any sleep, then had to get off the bus at 6am, wait three hours then get another bus to Kanchanaburi. We were definately relieved when we got here! So far our hostels have been great, but we arrived at our riverside bungalow to find it was practically falling apart, and the staff were less than helpful. They even made us write our own food order at lunch. Neither of us were in the best mood, so we walked down to the road to the next hostel (which is so much nicer) and got a room for the same price. We went straight back and packed our bags, the people in the first hostel looked really surprised when they saw us with our belongings. So after a bit of drama we are now settled in Apple's Guesthouse for two nights. We managed to see a bit of the town today. There is a huge Allied War Cemetery here, with over 7,000 men remembered there. Most of them are from Britain and the Netherlands. Was very moving being there.
Enough from us now... Love from
Joanne and Emma xx
