I woke up this morning not knowing where I'd be sleeping tonight or how the hec I was going to get there.
Fortunately I could use the hostel wi-fi to look for potential places to stay. Unfortunately I couldn't seem to get my act together or master the use of the pay phone to make reservations. Typical Emma, last minute as always.
I settled on taking a Greyhound bus leaving at mid-day heading to Boston. The 4.5 hour ride was fine, eased by the onboard wi-fi...sending up to the minute reports to my friends via facebook...now I'm just passing by the Yankees Stadium etc etc.
Arriving in Boston and negotiating a 20kg bag around the subway at rush hour brought the realisation that i seriously need to lose some weight....and not just from my luggage!! Phew.
Saying that the friendly welcome from the hostel staff came as a "hi there, you're just in time for the cook out." ...as he proceeded to stuff a burger and beer in my hand. Be rude not to take it right.
I spent Monday evening in another Jazz bar which after an hour or so I slipped in to Jazz overload and retreated to my bed.
"I'm from Boston, in England!" I wondered how many times I could fit that in to my day of being a tourist in the city named after my birthplace.
Well actually I didn't keep count but nobody seemed to be that impressed. The general response I got was "oh, I didn't realise there was a Boston in England."
For $19 I got to ride the hop-on hop-off trolley tour with a bonus harbour cruise. Despite being early to arrive at the harbour I'm the last to board the 12.30 cruise. I've been taking pics and waiting at a kiosk on the pier for my pizza order. There's enough time for a souvenier photo before I step aboard. A photo I'm certain I won't be purchasing and certain I'm in the minority standing alone holding up a pizza- all the same I pose with a cheesy expression.
As soon as I've polished of the 7" onion, pepper and tomato pizza I go up to the upper deck to get a better view of the city skyline, feel the wind in my hair and glorious sun on my face- (you jump, I jump remember Rose).
