Salt flats to San Pedro
Now, where was I? (Have given up on the catchy headings already).
I finally made it to Uyuni, which is a pretty bleak place, but the beginning of the salt flats tour to San Pedro de Atacama in Chile. I´d heard so many horror stories about the tours (jeeps breaking down in the middle of nowhere and drunk drivers) that I´m relieved to say that my luck was in and nothing untoward happened! The scenery was fantastic and the trip well worth it. I had been worried that I wouldn´t be suitably impressed having already "done" the Argentinian salt flats - but it was far bigger and better. I shall bore you all with my pics when I get back. Met an English woman, who mothered me because of arm/food poisoning/cold (which was very welcome) and some lovely Japanese people, who confirmed my brother´s generalisations about the Japanese!
Haven´t done much since I arrived in San Pedro; lots of sleeping, recuperating and re-planning the rest of my trip. It´s a lovely place: warm, dry and sunny with a relaxed "hippy" vibe. It´s quite expensive and touristy though. I did go on a tour of the Valle del Muerte and Valle de la Luna yesterday afternoon/evening - spectacular scenery again - and watched the sun setting over the Valle de la Luna (which was pretty if a little disappointing).
Next stop Antofagasta tomorrow ...
