Emma's Smiley Travels
Hi all,
Well, i have made it as far as Venuzela... and i was doing ok properly traveling on my own!! But this was going to be my biggest test, as i had a feeling that Canaima National Park was going to be very remote, (i.e not much English spoken..).
Well, i was right about the English bit. I had just arrived and was marvelling in the view i had from my little hut (see photos online) as i was actually in the National Park and could see the Lagoon & Sapel waterfalls. When i went on my first trip in a little canoe boat to see the Sapel waterfalls, with a guy from Barcelona (hardly any English) and an indigenous indian tour guide (no English) it was an interesting afternoon as we all pointed and tried to mime what we were saying!!!
But i had a great time it was great when we actaully walked right underneath the waterfall!! Having said that i was a little relieved to here that the guide taking us to Angel Falls had some English as my Spanish can only take me so far!!
I have always thought of myself as a morning person, but when i was told the Angel Falls trip was starting at 430am... i felt that change.
The Angel Falls trip was like no other, it started with the National Park Military joining our boat. Included a 1hr 30m jungle (and i don't mean a nice little tourist trial like at Iguassu Falls) trek to get to the top and view Angel Falls, oh i should also mention that it was rainy season and i near cracked my head two or three times as the rocks were so slippy:)
But when we swam into the waterfall it was fab, and they are so high, a complete contrast to the Iguassu Falls that are so wide.
On the way back we rode through rapids which was great fun, but not entirely sure your meant to be rapid riding in a canoe boat!!!
It was an early night to bed and a flight back to Caracus the next day...
More on Caracus next...
Take Care
Em:)
