After diving for the last two days we made the most of being by the sea and enjoyed spending time on the beach (though Luke being anti-sand preferred to be by the pool at the hotel). We also ventured out into other parts of Nha Trang for a bit of exploration. A large bridge took us over the river to Northern Nha Trang. We visited the Cham Towers that are over 1000 years old, the giant white Buddha on a hill overlooking the city built to encourage peace in the 1960's and saw a decorative pagoda with monks inside praying.
Luke had cravings for Western food after not having much appetite for a few days so we had dinner one night at Da Fernando, a local Italian and had another at Lanterns, both Lonely Planet recommendations. At Lanterns we ordered a table-top BBQ which was good fun. We were given a plate or raw meat marinated in a lovely sauce (sesame seeds, honey, lemongrass etc) and began to cook on our small BBQ. Soon, the waitress came over and began to cook it for us. At first I thought she had seen my poor attempt at barbequing with chopsticks! But actually we were cooking the meat too long according to her, and she proceeded to show us how to do it properly for several minutes. It was a really nice meal so we decided to book onto a cooking course that the restaurant offered for later on in the trip.
