Today we had an early start so that we could visit the Police Station to report my camera missing. After a few minutes of interrogation the officer agreed to help, if we came back again in a couple of hours. He also later asked for a 'donation' for their help and dictated the wording of my statement to say missing and not stolen (apparently stolen means they need to investigate and it would take too much time, seemed more like they didn't want to admit that was the case!) Anyway, after four rides in a tuk-tuk and several hours later, we had our police report. We got back in time to envy the rest of the group who had spent the morning in the pool and collect our bags, before it was time to get back on the bus for the 7 hour journey to Phnom Penh.
Luckily this was an express service that had fairly comfy seats, air con, a toilet and gave out water and snacks on route. We also stopped in a couple of villages, one in which sold the local delicacy of fried tarantulas. After seeing the guide munching happily on a spider's leg, guess who else decided to join in? Yes, everyone else either screamed at it being near them or wanted to poke it and see what it felt like. Luke snapped off a leg and starting crunching away, happy as Larry.
We arrived weary and exhausted in Phnom Penh and went out for dinner at a restaurant where Angkor beer was 40p a pint. Ideal.
