Well hello to all, this is my very first journal entry & as long as u don't think its bo***ks it wont be my last hehe (I've been told to limit the amount of swearing - so il try my best)! Anyhooo Fraser Island ... well what can I say we had an awesome time here - it really is that good! Our trip was for 3 days and 2 nights in a self-drive 4x4 tour in groups of 10 (as part of the whitsunday's package) on apparently the world's largest sand island - FRASER ISLAND!!!
Our package included all camping equipment (yes u can camp on a sand island & yes the tents were dingo safe), map (always a useful thing)... oh & a 4x4! Before we set off we were left to watch some videos basically telling us what to do if accosted by wild dingo's (advice we later ignored - after a goon-fuelled encounter one night) & then we got our food and supplies (mainly goon (cheap alcohol in a bag - for those who have not experiencied it yet) & headed off in our groups to the ferry terminal at hervey bay to fraser island - woohoo how exciting ... where damien proceeded to poke a dead fish on the beach by the terminal ... boys always want to poke things (in a manner of speaking), lennie was heard squealing with encouragement (she informs me she would have done it if there was a bigger stick' hmmm... now where have i heard that one b4! bizaarely it got people talking after the initial quiet after u meet people for the first time haha
We had a really good group actually ... the best out of the 3 that went (ok a bit biased but hey) ... met some really good people - no what we call 'boysss on tour' which we were glad of! The guys in our group took it in turns to drive - driving on sand is harder than u think... but so much fun ... proper safari - v.bumpy in the back - good idea to hold on esp in the tracks (I didn't drive cos of my ear infection - more because i was so dosed-up on painkillers and antibiotics, i probably would have been over-the-limit lol)
The map that is included gives you ideas where to go - so first port of call was lake mackenzine ... the picture above does not do it justice - it is booootiful (although the dude emerging from the water - baywatch-styleee (though minus the hoff-red shorts, is much to our amusement haha)! the lake is the most amazing light blue then goes darker blue as u can see from the pic) - after spending some time there we went off to find somewhere to camp on the beach as you were not allowed to drive after a certain time cos of the tide! So we found a nice little spot with group number 1 (managed to lose group 3 somehow - it is a big island u know!!!) - although we later found out that it was so nice because we weren't actually allowed to camp there doh!!! We were told to move on by the rangers but cos we had all started drinking - all the drivers were over the limit so we stayed put & decision that caused a bit of a ruckus in group 1 - ooops! (damien & chris managed to talk their way out of a fine for us the next morning - nice one guys)
The night was spent cooking a bbq, drinking, talking, passing round the ipod & going to the aussie guy's camp who invited us ... where some buzzy-thumb game was played - emma was cheating much to the disapproval of others (her side was switched off - she said she didnt realise - but who knows ... tee hee only teasing hun :)) & got a big cheer when she got buzzed! ah poor thing! Night ended with us sleeping in our tents - v.uncomfortable - lennie half way out the tent - not very dingo safe (hark ... but len - did u not watch the video???) Love Jo x x x
Day 2 coming up ... (I know u are all waiting with bated breath lol - & hey I kept the swearing to a minimum :) )
