ok ive been rly bad with my blog recently and so so much has happened. we've been venturing in peru for the last 15 days and have experienced so much awesome stuff. i will to give a brief overview so u dnt get too bored!
so first few days were in puno and we toured lake titicaca, which included a homestay on amantani island. barney and i stayed with a lovely familt who barely spoke english but went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. their house was built of mud and had 2 rooms.. a kitchen and a bedroom. it was so humbling watching them joking around a tiny fire as theybprepared our dinner by candlelight. unfortunately i had been ill that day so didnt join in with tge evening festivities of dressibg up like a local and partying with our mamas and papas. but see pics of barney in a sexy hat and poncho in pics. we had to wear individual hats at all times as it was the only way our 'family' could recognise us!
next was our 2 night jungle stay. only 6 of us did it and we had this lovely lodge to ourselves. it was very basic and right in the jungle along the tambopata river but it was so beautiful at night, being lit only by candles. we had jungle walks by day and night, and got to see loads of insects, monkeys, birds, and went cayman spotting.
umm following thar we started our tour of the sacred valley and i now know so much about the incas. they were an incredibly clever society and built wat are now huge ruins, but each one has a significant shape and purpose and are built from stones weighing tonnes and tonnes. this part of the tour included our 3 day inca trail hike with the 4th day endingnin machu picchu. it was tge most physically challenging thing i think i have ever done and will probably ever do but i am so proud of myself for achieving it. very early mornings and hours if hiking up very still mountains and steps larger that my knees, and sleeping on tents for 3 nights. it was exhausting but exhilarating at the same time. reaching machu picchu at 8am already after 3 hours of hiking was fantastic and it is so much more impressive than any pictures show. it is huge and has such a beautiful setting. even if u get the train up there, i would recommend it to anyone.
we didnt get back to cusco until 2am due to the train line still being damaged from the landslide, so the train only goes half way and then u have to get a bus.
we moved onto the colca canyon, which wasnt as impressive as i hoped. ye its huge but i guess we've seen so many huge cliff edges throughout peru. we did sone condor spotting. it was like they knew they were beibg watched as they circled above our heads. we also saw some inca mummy remails- skeletons and bones. much to our guides anguish, barney decided to touch the skulls and then had to make an offering of coca leavea to their god, the pachamama, to avoid being cursed!
i forgotvto mention our new culinary delight. u might have seen my pics... fried guinea pig! it comes out whold and it actually looked like it was squealing for its life! it tasted like peking duck but there was barely any meat on it! it was expensive but couldnt even act as a canope!
we are now in nasca and today we flew over the nasca lines. it wasca tiny 4 seater plane and such a bumpy hot ride. everyone but me felt rly sick but still glad weve seen them. such incredible carvings ibto the stone and sandy landscape, and stoll no one really knows their significance or why theyre there. the flight was scary and apparently on average a plane crashes once a month. thought id let u no this after weve done it! but were all safe!
so that brings us to now. the next few days take us to pisco for a pisco (local spirit) factory and sandbuggying, and then to lima where our tour ends. on tues we fly to la. gna be such a culture shock but rly cant wait. were both ready for something different - incas vs la!
hope ur all well and enjoying ur bit of nice weather. message me ur news. love hearing from u all.
all my love xxx
