Had the longest jouney ever! took a bus from paraty to sao paulo which took 5 hours and then had a 2 hour wait at the bus station before boarding and overnight 15 hour bus journey to iguacu falls! once there we went straight out to see the brazilian side of the falls.
unbelievable...it is so huge. apparently niagra falls is nothing compared to this. the expanse of water is huge. jsut goes on forever. you walk along this long trail with stunning views over the falls and then you can walk pretty close up to the water.
that evening we went against wat our tour leader wanted to do and decided to go to a really nice restaurant for dinner (our tour leader keeps taking us to really crappy restaurants which are the same price as the nicer ones but rubbish food) it was so nice to be in a civilised restaurant. had probably the best salmon risotto ive ever had but most people order the filet steak which was about 600g each and looked to die for!! am holding off for a good steak in argentia though! had a few drinks in a bar and then off to bed. hotel here is nice and cool with lots of air con (much needed as it is scoorching here!)
the next day we got up at 8am and made or way to the argentinian side of the fall. as described in the tour book, this side gives you an "up close and personal feel of the falls" and it definately does that. not only is there the falls but it is in a massive ecological jungle full of wildlife. we had a little safari ride through the jungle before embarking on a boat for a journey into the falls. the boat takes you right into the water. so much fun! all got completely soaked! only takes 1 min to dry off in this heat though! the rest of the day was spent walking through the park upto various water falls. and then onto "devils throat" walkway which takes you right to the top of the falls and you can look down into the water. it was breath taking. the force of the water and the spray up from the river below is something that no picture on my camera could capture!
then last night we went to a bbq at our bus drivers house with some other tour groups. was expensive and so we were abit dubious as it was suggested by our tour leader but it turned out to be so much fun. there was unlimited drink and food and a football pitch and swimming pool. everyone was in such good spirits. and as a suprise, the house owner had hired to brazilian strippers to turn up at midnight! they took barney up on stage. he had a good dance but wen they sat him down for the strip teast he thought that was enough..wat a good boyfriend! it was so funny.
so a late night and feeling it today. most of the group have gone shopping in paraguay today but barney and i decided not to go. in typical us fashion we took ourselves to a lovely restaurant for lunch and then to the zoo. now waiting in the lobby to leave for another overnight bus to uruguay. We're staying in a spa resort in salto so should be a day of relaxation after a long journey...gna splash out on a good massage..need it after carrying my heavy rucksack!
speak soon and will load some more photos hopefully wen i get a chance xxxxxxxx
