Got up early and hiked into town. We were a little late but the ferry was late anyway so it didn't matter. After about an hour and a half on the ferry the silhouette of Tioman emerged from the tropical haze. The island was SO much bigger than we imagined. The peaks at the south of the island stretched into the clouds. The ferry had four drop offs at different villages on the west coast before we arrived at Salang. Wow... White sandy beaches and the clear blue water, massive boulders surrounded by hills of lush green rainforest. We decided that we made the right decision coming here!!! The resort is simple but has everything you need, our chalet is facing the water, and although the interior could do with some decorating (esp the bathroom!) it is fantastic. The tide was out when we arrived but as I have been writing, the tide has come in and our chalet is now over the water!!! After we got organised we explored the village, thinking we might go for a walk to the main town of Telek - lucky one of the locals informed us we would be treking through the jungle for 2 hours before we got there or we could have been sleeping in the forest!!! It turns out the only way in and out of Salang is by boat unless you have your hiking boots on! So instead we went for a swim at the beach. Just off shore there is coral with tropical fish and the snorkel set James bought along (and has been lugging around Malaysia) came in very handy and will save us heaps in hiring costs!
In a couple of hours we are going to knock back a few coldies and watch the sunset...til next time...xox
