Still discovering Istanabul-so much to see and Em and I are feeling pretty happy that last night we could say we have now travelled by boat ,and the local train which actually took a bit of figuring out but an efficient system compared to the chaotic road, and after having walked a long way.
So...politically we know nothing here-has notbeenan issue as far as we are aware;haven't had TV on/heard any news.
We have now had a couple of trips to the grand Bazaar/spice market area-fascinating,huge and full of usual sights and wares!
Have discovered by accident but fortunately a couple of newer areas with nice little designer shops ,some with very expensive clothes and others with nick-backs,furniture and arty type stuff-beautiful!the narrow streets are very clean and shop keepers not the least bit pushy, and some more friendly than others.Cafes are fun and we have now tried most of the usual Turkish food-baklava and T Delight to die for, local cheap wine good and the general lunch/dinner menu repetive but cheap and good.
Istanbul is developing quick smart with a lot of building and tidying up being done.
We took a tour yesterday-half day Bosphorous River Trip which is a great way to see the city from the water-beautiful buildings old and new, busy river, but only one hour aboard the spacious boat.the rest of the trip was spent collecting others from various hotels around the city, changing buses then dropping them off afterwards-all quite interesting as well and as it was a dull, drizzly day a good way to spend it.
Today we are going to the Modern Museum, and tomorrow I will tour for the day probably out of the city to Botanical Garden /zoo area I think.
Bye for now x
